Question: Ideas for a school literary magazine!?
I'm currently in the process of assembling my school's first literary magazine since 2004, but I'm having a hard time recruiting students to the cause!.!.!.any ideas on how to advertise the magazine in a creative way!? I've tried posters and etc, but there's already so many others from other clubs that nobody really pays attention to the ones about "boring" topics, such as literature!.!.!.any other ideas about literary magazines in general would be very welcome! I'm really new at this and could really use a hand!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Recruit of couple of English profs to your cause!. A lot of them will probably be willing to make a quick announcement for you and that might help drum up some submissions!. also if your school is like mine was all the school paper, literary magazine, and other magazine that we had helped each other out when possible!. Try talking to the EIC at the newspaper about running a small in the paper for you!. If you have a college radio station get them to give you a plug!.

Another idea you could do fairly cheap is go to Wal-Mart by some plain t-shirts and some t-shirt transfer sheets for your printer and create t-shirts for your staff!. Then you have some walking advertising!.

Another thing you might consider is hosting a poetry open mic night where people can come and receite their poems, short stories or sing songs!.

Posters tend to get over looked no matter what the subject is, your best bet is word of mouth!. Try to arrange some fun events!. Halloween is coming up, maybe you could arrange a costume party where everyone comes dressed as their favorite literary character!. Give them a few examples that are a little more in the "now" like Harry Potter, Twilight, Lord of the Rings and maybe a few of the classics that people don't always think of as being literature like Dracula, The Invisible Man, Frankenstein's monster!. If you have the resources to give out a prize for the best costume that would probably help your cause!. And you clarify that people can come out of costume or in costume that's not a literary charcter but they wouldn't qualify for the prize!.

In my school magazine, what I'm really interested in hearing about are short story competitions!. Have a new topic every month or something!. I remember one week, we had to either write a short story or poem about the beach and the following month we were to write about the life of an object!. :) Hope this helps Www@QuestionHome@Com
