Question: Is the book/movie "To Kill a Mockingbird" based on a true story!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
No, not based on true story!. However, the trials of the "Scottsboro Boys" motivated Lee to write TKAM!. In 1931, 9 African American young men (ages 13-21) boarded a train for Memphis!. Several white men on the train picked a fight with the black men!. The black men were then accused of raping 2 white women and arrested immediately!. They were named the "Scottsboro Boys" after the town in Alabama where they were first tried!. 8 of the 9 were convicted by an all-white jury and sentenced to death!. Sound familiar!? A few similarities between the "Scottsboro Boys" and TKAM are: they both took place in the 1930's, both occur in Alabama, and both begin with a charge of rape made against a white woman/women against a black man/men!.

And, yes, the character Dill is based on Lee's childhood friend Truman Capote!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No, but this book was based on what life was like back then and what it was like for coloured people!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
