Question: Your favourite not as well known authors!?
Ah, there are well known authors in this world, ranging from Homer to Stephen King to Shakespeare!. Some write fantasy, other write mystery or plays!. Yes, I know JK Rowling and Stephanie Meyer (unfortunately)!. But I want to know authors who write incredible books but just don't get enough recognition!.

One of mine is Kevin Brooks!. He writes YA books that are truely meaningful and show great depth!. A takes a subject and puts a great mysterious twist to it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I agree with Azriel!. Like the authors she mentioned, some of those among my favorites are well known and/or remembered in certain circles but not by the public at large!.

The first author who comes to mind is Taylor Caldwell!. She was a rather prolific writer whose stories were excellent, even though she forced you to have a dictionary nearby while reading!.

Helen Hooven Santmyer, though she wrote only a few books, is another author I'd mention!. Her !.!.!.And Ladies of the Club was a wonderful book full of charm!.

Nancy Atherton is another author about whom I almost never hear!. However, she wrote a rather enjoyable series of Aunt Dimity mystery stories!. She is still writing this series, and it's a lot of fun!.

Anne Bronte, though reasonably well known, has been eclipsed by both of her sisters!. Her two books, Agnes Grey and The Tenant of Wldfell Hall, are (in my opinion) on a par with both Jane Eyre (by Charlotte) and Wuthering Heights (by Emily)!.

Stephanie Barron is an excellent writer, well known to some but not all!. Her Jane Austen mystery series is exceptional!.

Diane Chamberlain is a good author of quite a few stories!. I don't believe I've seen even one person on B&A mention her!.

Both Kate Douglas Wiggin and Eleanor H!. Porter were first-class writers around the turn of the 20th century, but most of their works have been lost in the mists of time!. Each are known, by some, for their children's books, but most don't remember their many adult novels!. I love both!. Most don't know that Frances Hodgson Burnett (The Secret Garden) wrote quite a number of excellent adult novels!.

Mary Stewart is known for her Merlin series, but only some know of her many romantic suspense novels!. They are among my favorite in that genre!. Two others who wrote wonderful romantic suspense are Phyllis A!. Whitney and Victoria Holt!. Some know these authors, but they don't have a lot of public acclaim!.

There are many more, including Elizabeth Goudge whose books were just recommended to me as excellent and among those I'm looking forward to reading, but these are some I enjoy!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Unfortunately it seems unless authors are either extremely prolific or make a movie, they don't get a whole lot of recognition from the world at large!. Even certain ones who make it to the NY Times Best Seller list don't become as well known as they should!.

My favorite authors ARE well known, but within their specific circles of fandom!. For instance Neil Gaiman is hugely famous within the graphic novel realm, but when I tell people he's famous they're like "Neil who!?" The same goes for Terry Pratchett who's been writing for years and before JKR came along was the best selling fantasy author in Britain!. In America he has a huge fanbase but his name isn't generally known to people who aren't into fantasy!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

H!. Beam Piper

A fifties sci-fi writer who is a master, yet is rarely mentioned and hasn't seen reprints since the early 1980s!. His books Lord Kalvan of Otherwhen, Space Viking, Uller Uprising, and Paratime stories are classics!.

And now the best thing about liking little known authors!?

Lapsed copyrights by lazy lawyers mean that you can now legally download dozens of his books off of Project Gutenberg!.

One of my favorite authors who doesn't get much recognition is Craig Clevenger!. He doesn't write in the genre you mentioned, his stuff is adult, dark, and experimental, kinda like Chuck Palahniuk (but better, in my opinion)!.

The Controtionist's Handbook and Dermaphoria are two of my favorite books!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Scott Westerfeld!. He writes YA books that are gripping, you want to read more to know what's gonna happen!. The Uglies series is set in the future, a scary future!. He also has a few stories about Vampires for the people who are on that wagon right now!. I think there are a lot more writers out there who need more recognition!. Great question!. :-)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Markus Zusak!. Australian writer, generally young adult books!. His best (in my opinion) is "The Book Thief"!. Set in Nazi Germany, about a young girl growing up!. Sounds sort of unoriginal, but a fantastic novel!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Jean-Dominique Bauby
he wrote the diving bell and the butterfly using only his left eye
so i think he gets alot of credit!

I tried to answer this last night and I ended up with an enormous, random, list of names that were just all over the place!. It made me realize that a huge number of my favorite books are really kind of obscure, at least now, some weren't, in their day!.

I like your question though, and I keep coming back to it, so I'm going to give it another shot, this time trying to focus on the impression I've gotten of you through your answers!. I may be completely off-base, and if so, please forgive me, but I'm guessing you'll find a few things to like in the following list!. I'm putting a favorite title, but most of these people have other wonderful books too!.
