This is pulled word-for-word from an answer I gave someone else who asked this exact same question (within the last week)!.

The Secret simply explains the law of attraction, which has been around for eternity!. Amanda Bryne did not invent this stuff, she simply put it in the mainstream!.

The law of attraction does in fact work, but you have to make it work for you!. Reading the book will not make it work; only you can do that!. Yes, positive thinking is required (to get positive results), but you have to be willing to put in the work to master that positivity!. This is not a case where you can put on a positive outlook to those around you but harbor negative or doubtful feelings!. You need to learn to completely banish those negative thoughts!. It is not an easy process!. It will take a lot of work, but it is worth it in the end!.
