Question: Are the Twilight series novels by Stephenie Meyer appropriate for a 12 year old!.!.!.!?
I know they are vampire-based fantasy/romance/horror novels and I was pretty shocked to see these books would be incorporated into my daughters 7th grade reading class!. Maybe the teachers think theye need to get the kids involved in books that will "hold interest of a 12 year old", I just dont think these books are for my daughter!. Anyone familiar with the series!. The final book has a birthing scene that made me feel sick, and I'm seventeen, but other than that there's nothing in the way of graphic sex or violence, and there's certainly no horror!. They're just shockingly badly written and set feminism back about a century!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If my 12 year old wanted to read twilight I would let her!. The author and publishers agree that the book is for people 12 and up!. It's about vampires but not in the traditional way!. No blood exchanging, no sex!. There is no drinking or smoking involved in the series either!. The two main characters Bella (human) and Edward(vampire) are in love!. True love!. They do talk about if vampires can have sex and if he and her would someday!. Its not graphic and I don't even think that the word sex is mentioned during the conversation!. I have a friend who's daughter read the whole series!. She said when her daughter was reading it she felt more comfortable talking about when it's appropriate to have sex (in later books its stated that Edward does not believe in sex before marriage) Bottom line read some reviews and synopses and if you still aren't sure about it read the book yourself!. also if your daughter is not mature then maybe she should choose another book!.
**** luck!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Twilight has some kissing and slight violence!.
New Moon has a main character in a period of depression, attempted suicide, and, again, kissing!.
Eclipse has a guy forcing a kiss on a girl, a little violence, some discussion of sex, and a (shirtless) guy snuggling with a girl in a tent!.
Breaking Dawn has sex (not described), a birthing scene (involving uterus-chewing), and, you guessed it, kissing!.

The first three are appropriate, definitely!. I'm not sure about the final one, though!.

They are appropriate for 12 year olds, but only if they are smart enough to use the search bar to read the answers to questions that have already been asked and answered!.

Teach your daughter that skill (well, learn it yourself and then teach it to her) and she will be fine!.

If you really don't want her reading them, request the teacher to give her an alternative book!. They cannot refuse that!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Im currently in the process of reading the series, and have started the third book!. My girlfriend has read all of them, and insisted that I start reading them!. The books are not terrible!. There is more romance in the novels than anything else!. A girl falls in love with a vampire in her class!. There are no really gorry parts, and its not sexual at all!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't think they're appropriate for 12 year olds!. Most of the moms in my group of friends aren't going to let their daughter's read those book until they're about 16!. The first book is fine, but there is quite a bit of sexual tension in the last two books!.

I say read them yourself (they're easy reads) and then you can make an informed decision!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I've read them and they are very good but not for a 12 year old!. I'm in high school and just finished the last one and I was actually blushing reading it with all the sexual tension like someone had said, that's not to say it's bad it's just not for younger readers!.

Anyway when she's older she'd be able to relate to the topics better!.!.!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yeah, they are appropriate for 12 years old, i read them when i 12 and i understanded it fully!. It is really not for anybody 10 and under i think it might get a little inappropriate for that age group!. It is written for young adults!

Um!.!.!.!.I love the series!.!.!.!.!.huge fan! But for a 12 year old!?!? No!.!.!.!.the books are based on teenagers and teen romance!.!.!.!.it's suppose to be a teenage series!.!.!.!.!.twelve is not a teenager!. LoL!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The last book, Breaking Dawn, may not be appropriate for an immature 7th grader but I know I would have been able to read through it when I was 12!. I'm 15 now!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
