Question: Classic Vampire Novels!?
For my English Honors project, I'm doing the subject of vampires!. Through my project I'm trying to portray how vampires were in books before the media turned the subject into all blood and gore!. I want to show how sophisticated and sensual that genre used to be!. So I'm wondering if anyone knows some old, sophisticated books about vampires that show their inner struggle with humanity!. Of course, I have already decided upon Dracula by Bram Stoker, but I still need two more books!. They have to be a more advanced reading level and must be sophisticated!

Please do not suggest the Twilight books as I have already read them and they are not allowed for this project!. (Although they are BY FAR my favorite book series =D)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Good luck with your project, but I think you'll find that the vampire of those days was a nasty creature, not an Anne Rice lust toy!.

Most of Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicle books are good!. You'll definitely get 2 books from those (does it matter if they're by the same author!?)

I would recommend "Interview with a Vampire" and "Vampire Lestat"

Both of those would show feeling, compassion, and sensuality within the vampire psyche!.

Hope this helps! Good subject by the way!.

EDIT:

Oh, I just thought of these!. There's a whole series, and while they're certainly not classic, or even very well written, it takes a VERY different take on vampires, if you read at least one of them you'll see what I mean!.

The Southern Vampire series by Charlaine HarrisWww@QuestionHome@Com

My suggestions would be something by Anne Rice, and Carmilla by la Fanu!. Do you have an opening date for when you believe the media began portraying vampires as such!? Such as prior to the 1980's, or etc!? That will affect your choice of novels!.

I normally don't put much stock in Wikipedia, but this seems like a good article, and has great resources that you may wish to check out!. Good Luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com
