I didn't like it and I'm a library science student (aiming for youth services)!. My manager at the library I work at, use to be a teen librarian and didn't like it either!. I also work with another librarian who helps chose the teen short list for a state book award, she wasn't thrilled about having it on her reading list for last year!.

Oh well whatever gets them to read!. Despite the fact that about half the staff at my library location doesn't like Twilight, we still will recommend it sometimes!. I say let them pick it up!. If they like it they like it; if they don't, they don't!. My only issue is that I feel that it truly is a mature teen bordering on adult book; just because a ten year old can read Twilight, doesn't mean they should!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

all i know is just because it happens in a book, doesn't mean it doesn't happen every wear else, its called THE REAL WORLD! i think its said that 1/10 of women who have babies in the US are under the age of 20, so if you think its bad to tell anyone this story then you'd have to keep them from leaving the house!.

and this is called a teen book, have you read another teen book!? it is incredibly hard to find a book that does not mention sex let alone describe it in more detail then they do in twilight!.

i agree that it is bad for the younger younger kids to be reading it, but im 13 ok its not like i haven't known about sex and such for years, it isn't a news flash, its only because its a Famous book!. just keep your opinions to yourself, everyone has one, and no ones is right!.

Edit: also alot of people have asked questions exactly like this so it doesn't need to be re-asked, becuase the twilight haters are turning into the crazed twilight fans who ask the same question 48 times!. just because you don't like twilight doesn't meen we need to know!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm a parent who read them as her 11 yr old finished them!. I don't censor her reading!. I feel my daughter is smart enough not see a particular message in them and feel vindicated when she never finished the last book as she got so annoyed with 'Bella' being a wimp!. I thought the books were poorly written, and the characters pretty flat, but as holiday pulp fiction they gave us a lot to discuss!. My daughter saw these books for exactly what they are, vampire romance fantasy!. Saying all this, she is reading Gaston Leroux's Phantom of the Opera (1910) and is getting seriously annoyed with the Christine character!. She can see the parallels between her and Bella, so there is nothing new to this kind of writing!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, if you're going to take it seriously, then yes, it was sending a rather bad message!.

But if you can't take fiction for what it is then perhaps you shouldn't be reading fiction anyway!. And if you wanted a book about a good little girl, you should have read Anne of Green Gables, or Little House on The Prairie!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

*raises hand*
14 year old girl here, who's fairly well-read!.
the whole concept was just!.!.!.!.weird!.
The plot was vaguely interesting, but Bella's relationships are just plain unhealthy, and do we really need girls to think that it's okay to lust over someone's "gorgeous amber/liquid gold eyes and his perfectly tousled bronze hair!?", w/o knowing what the person is even like!?
And Jacob/Edward both have a slew of personality disorders!. Jacob's a near stalker, and don't make me get started on Mr!. Cullen's psyche issues!.
Stephanie Meyer needs to have a nice reality check!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

that's a pretty bad message but their parents should be teaching them to know better!. they know they shouldn't do it but it's so hard when somebody you idolize does something!. you just wanna do it but, if they have good parents who them about stuff like this i'm sure reading the book wouldn't be a problem!. i think the whole thing with the series is that SM wrote them for herself (and didnt think about her audience!?) so she didnt have to worry about bella being a good role model or sending good messages!. I think some kids shouldnt be reading the series because they will go looking for their own edward and will be extremely upset when they find hes not real!. but otherwise i think the series is entertaining!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

nahh
edward is the fantasy guy
its like saying
"dont watch cinderella prince charming is to perfect!"
well twlight is the cinderalla story of teen/tweeens
and girls really do get pregnat when their teens im no gonna lie
im a teen and you gotta face relaity
it happens!.!. now and
before twilight came out!Www@QuestionHome@Com

14 year old, right here!

it's not so much the whole pregnancy thing as it is the overt sexism, depicting the 'heroine' as an inept doormat who can't do anything without leaning on her stalker/abusive man!.

just makes me want to puke, especially when girls go all crazy over edward!. hello!? have you not noticed that underneath that sparkly hide lies an emotion-abusive, manipulating controller who thinks that you and your life belong completely to him!?

urgh!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I haven't read them, but I find it true that what seems enticing and attractive in your fantasies would really be harmful or unappealing in real life!. This is fiction, so it's a fantasy!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I hate it and I'm a teen!.
It sends out wrong messages, and the writing is horrible!. It's a crappy book, but I guess teen girls are just obsessed with EdwardWww@QuestionHome@Com
