Question: Has anyone read the Satanic Verses by Salman Rushdie!? What is about that they want to kill him!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Some muslims saw the book as blasphemous and insulting to Muhammad!. They believed Rushdie was saying the Quran, or at least part of it, was from Satan instead of Allah!. They were also angry about the names of some of the places and characters in the book, such as prostitutes named after Muhammad's wives!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Dear friend,
First of all, the title itself is offensive to the particular religious community because the Holy Book is refered to as the Holy Verses but he gave the title The Satanic Verses!.
Secondly he gave his own opinions about the Islamic customs, and the religious doctrines through the stories of the characters and it was really intolerable for the people who practise strict Islam!.
I have read it twice and I think he does know a lot about the religion but he believes that using that as the content of his story could do the magic and he could reform the society but it turned out to be just opposite!.
It is difficult to read the way the master writer Salman Rushdie writes English but if you try you will really marvel at his literary skills but as to his opinions about a particular religion, I find his writing vulgar and unworthy of the status he holds because even if you are a good writer you have no right to infringe upon the rights of the others and try to insult the religion which has such a large following!.
God bless youWww@QuestionHome@Com

I know one person who has read it!. Like all the others, I find the book unreadable, and I've got a university degree in English!.
The grounds for wanting to kill him lie in a passage which does dirt on the prophet Mohammed!. In the Islamic world you don't do that, and no one who did would last long!.
The Western media represented this as all got up by the Iranian regime, and it was, in the sense that the people would not have heard of it otherwise!. But this is not to say that they did not feel deeply about it!. At the time, I asked an Iranian woman what she thought!. She was an exile, hated the Iranian regime, and lived a western lifestyle!. She said, "Well, if it isn't contradicted by something later on, and if the author doesn't explain it was a character's point of view and [and here followed a whole series of ifs] !.!.!. well, then - he must die!"Www@QuestionHome@Com

The book is the biggest load of twaddle I,ve ever read and I did,nt 'get it' at all, but apparently he (Salman Rushdie) had the Holy Prophet Mohamed doing things that the Muslims considered insulting, misrepresentative and demeaning!. Consequently it was seen as being blasphemous to the Faith of Islam and the overrated writer was put under a Fatuah!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

I have not read the book in question but I do believe the controversy stems from the fact that Muslims believe it contains blasphemous references!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
