The obvious one is Dracula!. I think I saw Anne Rice was already mentioned, but I'll give her another recommendation!. also, about 15 years ago, I read this cool series which followed an epistolary format similar to Bram Stoker's classic, called Diaries of the Family Dracul!. The three books in the series are Covenant with the Vampire, Children of the Vampire, and Lord of the Vampires!. It was a very good series!. Not your modern Buffy novel, or the teen vampire novels, like Twilight, that have become so popular!.

The 'Necroscope' series by Brian Lumley is excellent!.
I've read all of the books in the series and I loved it!
At first the story doesn't involve vampires but later they become the main theme and there is a bit of romance!.
