Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Our school district requires the students to read a book over summer vacation from a list of approved age appropriate books they provide!. My son read The Outsiders his freshman summer (going into sophomore year)!. He is not one for reading, but he really enjoyed that book!. I would definately recommend you read it!Www@QuestionHome@Com i am 12 years old, and for my summer reading, i was required to read the outisders and the giver!. i say that any age can read the book!. my whole class read it and we all loved the book!. so any age is appropriate!. NOTE: there is a lot of fighting of the two gangs, and some killing, but all in all, its an amazing book!Www@QuestionHome@Com At my school it's required reading in 7th grade!. I was 13 then, and some of my friends were 12!. So 12 is probably the youngest age!. The book deals a lot with violence and crime, and a few people even die!.Www@QuestionHome@Com It's got some violence, but not really anything too bad!. I'd say eleven or twelve!. So yes, you can read without worry!. It's a really good book, by the way!.
