Question: Theme statement for King Lear involving the concept of "blindness caused by self-delusion"!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Lear deludes himself into believing that the daughters who flatter him are loyal, but in reality, Goneril and Regan are self-serving and conniving!. Cordelia, who disobeys his order for public flattery, is actually his most loyal daughter!. Lear simply chooses to see what he wants to see!. Later, he is blinded by literal madness as he declines into senility!.

Gloucester, who is later literally blinded by his enemies, allows Edmund to blind him to Edgar's loyalty and his own deception!. Gloucester takes Edmund's word for it when he claims that Edgar is planning to overthrow him!. He never questions his bastard son's version of reality, even though he initially struggles to believe that his good son Edgar would do such a thing!.
