Actually, the answer to your question would depend on the genre you are writing!. If it is sci-fi, then you will want to play with semantics!. If the story is historical then you will want to use a name from that era!. also, you should consider if he is a main character or a minor character!. Minor characters should have names that will not overwhelm the main character!. A main character, protaganist or antaganist, should have memorable names that reveal character!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i agree with the guy who suggested molding the names around what type of story it is!. it is sort of anticlimactic to have a guy born 3000 years in the future named Matt!. Just as it is unrealistic for and ancient egyptian to be named Bob!. for a modern book, just stick with the basic guy's names
