In the modern world!? I'm sorry I don't follow you!. My views of elves are strongly Tolkien colored!.

I always pictured elves as being graceful, noble wood-folk (or mountain elves, or sea elves, whichever you're talking about), strong in magic and folklore!. They always struck me as loyal, brave, and always possessed a great love for music and laughter and singing!. The elves to me were the noble race, tall, slender, graceful and elusive!. Physical characteristics I always thought, were varied, but the pointy ears of course (aren't pointy ears just so enchanting!?) with long hair and delicately crafted headpieces and magical clothing!. They would of course be beautiful, with a young appearance but the air of wisdom (as they are immortal) As Tolkien says of Arwen, "Young she was and yet not so!."

After reading the first two answerer's answers, I'm not quite sure what to say!.!.!.

But, I will say that when I hear the word "Elf"/"Elves," I immediately picture J!.R!.R!. Tolkien's Elves - majestic and graceful beings with pointy ears and all that good stuff (but that's just me being a Tolkien fan)!. That being said, how I imagine Elves ultimately depends on how an author and/or creator describes or portrays them!. If an author describes an Elf as a short being with pointy shoes, like Santa's Elves, then that is how I imagine an Elf!. But if the author describes Elves as tall, graceful beings, like Tolkien's Elves, then that is how I imagine an Elf!. A creature is what the author/creator wants it to be!.!.!.

You must understand, nobody but nobody wants to picture him/her self as an elf!. But, and DON'T tell him if you see him, Bush has always struck me as kind of an elf's helper!. I don't know who that makes the actual elf -- us!? -- well, so be it!.
