Today i started school and my american literature teacher mentioned edgar allen poe's poems being so dark due to the fact that he had a really troubled life!. It has been eating me up since that class to figure out how he had a bad life!. Now im not a fan of poetry or edgar allen poe but im just curious!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: His father abandoned him when he was 1 I think then his mother died about 2 years later!.He was a gambler and was estranged from his foster father!.He was a drop out, the woman he loved left him , He was disowned, his first wife died, and his second wife left him!. His older brother died of alcoholism!. He finally died alone in a hospital after being found delirious in the streets of Baltimore!. Pretty crappy life huh!?Www@QuestionHome@Com oh god, not a fan of Poe or poetry, the horror! he had a lot of tragedy in his life!. practically every woman in his life died and he was estranged from both his biological father and adoptive father!. he was also very opinionated and didn't make any friends by criticizing other authors!. he died mysteriously, he was found unconscious in the gutter!. we can debate his life and death , but that's pointless just read his work!. dark, dramatic, beautiful and sad!. the raven, Annabel lee or dream with in a dream, not to mention his amazing short stories (omg my head might explode) he was one of the greatest American authors!.Www@QuestionHome@Com Poe was an alcoholic, had a lot of debts from gambling, did a stint in the Army, slowly became rather unstable after his wife died (at 15; she was 13 when they married) and finally died at age 40 of unknown causes, although it's been speculated that he died of everything from epilepsy to syphilis and rabies!.Www@QuestionHome@Com His father abandoned the family and then his mother died!.He also married his 13 year old cousin(it is just me or that was very sick of him!?),besides she dies 2 years later!.He was a drunk,etc,etc,etc!.He was a mess up guy and everybody around him dies!.Www@QuestionHome@Com he was an alcoholic!. he married his cousin (possibly poem annabelle lee) and she died!. the last few weeks of his life are unkonwn but then he came into town sickly and jittery!. he fell unconsious and died soon after he was most likely schizophrenic!.Www@QuestionHome@Com He was orphaned at a young age, everyone he loved throughout his life ended up dying!.
