Question: In To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus Finch is generally regarded as the hero of the novel!. What's his flaw!?
According to the traditional Greek definition, every hero has a flaw!. What do you think is Atticus'!? I was thinking something along the lines of the fact that he trust too easily!. He was sure that Bob Ewell had vented out his anger after spitting in his face the day before and would not harm them, despite the warnings that Jem and Scout gave!. However, he Bob lateer tried to kill them!. also, the fact that he puts his morals first, (which is a positive as well) but by doing that, places his kids in danger!. What do you think about his parenting skills!? Is that a flaw!? Thanks!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I believe that his flaw is that he believes that good will always triumph in the end over bad or evil!. He believes in the innate goodness of people and that in the end they will do what is right rather than what is popular!.

possibly!. however, since the book is told from scout's point of view, we see atticus as she sees atticus, and scout adores him!. she's not old enough yet to see that atticus has flaws just like any other person- kids generally start seeing that in their parents years later, and at the time of the book, she's about six years old!. and so she sees him as a hero, which he undoubtedly is,but without the flaws she sees in others!.

anything else is just speculation!.

I read this book last year!. I think that one of Atticus's biggest flaws is that he always tries to do the right thing!. In most cases this wouldn't be considered a flaw!. However it does indanger his children!. When Bob Ewelll spits in his face he just assumes that his wrath is over!. Since Bob Ewell couldn't get to Atticus through violence she decides to attack the children with almost ends in their death!.

I don't think his parenting skills are bad!. I think they reflect modern day parenting!. He is very loose with his children, teaching them responsibility, yet, he still keeps them safe!. also, he doesn't want his children to get involved with his problems, they put that upon themselves!. He lets them be who they want to be!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
