You could say that Arthur Dimmesdale is a tragic hero (i!.e!., he has a rather noble nature but is flawed, he makes serious errors in judgment, the reader feels pity for him)!.

Honestly, besides Hester, I can't think of anyone else who fits the heroic mold!. Chillingworth, Pearl, the Governor, his sister, the townspeople; none of them seem to fit!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
