speak is significant because the main character learns throughout the book how to use her voice!.

she started out not only unable to speak at all, but she never really stood up for herself much either!.

just explain like different situations that she learned to overcome!.

and the different ways she spoke her mind, i!.e!. her journal, her art projects, writing in the bathroom, !.!.!.!.

love that book!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well the book goes into a subject that is very true she did something she wasn't suppose to do! I'm not saying what happened to her was right it was in fact very sad! No one deserves to be raped but it's harder for her because it was her friends boyfriend!!!!!!! Bad enough the first day of school the girl tells her she hates her!!!
This is not a good look and she's very depressed imagine you being raped by somebody that you know and the sad thing is that she was date the boy!!!! if you see the movie you can see that she was really into to him!!!!!!!! In your essay you can put that "Mel" comes from a dysfunctional family that butchers turkeys for Thanksgiving!!!!!!! Her "friend" Heather uses her and she's a major pain in the ***!!!!!!!!!!! the boy that raped her terrorizes her by like leaning over her at lunch and following her when she rides her bike but to come to find out the boy that raped is dating her Ex-Bestfriend! Her E-B ( ex-best friend is mad at her anyway) but Mel got into a situation and this is how it happened - She was hanging out with this boy and she liked him and she liked him back they were at a party tweren'trent suppose to be at there was beer alcohol and under-aged children there!!!!!!! So the boy Evan that Mel was hanging out with took her in a car and raped her!!!!!!! Mel called the cops and the ppl at the party found out ABSOLUTELY nobody knew about what happened in the car so they got REALLY mad 'cause a lot of ppl got in trouble! Mel walked home by herself! and when it was time for the first year of highschool she had everything that happened the day b4 highschool bottled up in her! she didnt even tell her mom! so her "friend" Rachel and half the kids at the highschool hate her!!!!!! throughout the book she finds her "voice" to SPEAK (title of the book) at the end she tells Rachel that her bf (the boy that raped her) did it Rachel doesnt believe at first 'till she asks him and he acts funny about it! Then while she's in her quiet and peaceful place where she does art!. at the end of the year she's taking her art off the wall and Evan (the boy that raped her) terrorizes her by telling her she's ugly and trying to rape her again! the cheerleaders stop him and Rachel and Mel are Friends again and Dave Petrakis this boy that likes Mel or Melanie whatever you want to call her start talking and by the way she's taking art classes in NYC for the summer! the continuation to speak is Catalyst!
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Www@QuestionHome@Com
