Question: What do you think of the book I'm writing!? It's mainly for kids!.!?
It's about these 5 kids, (but later it turns into a group of 7) who are around the age of 12 and 13, and one day after school they find out that they have these special powers!. Cool powers like being able to control electricity, fire, plants, water, metal, ice, and the weather!.
Nellie - electricity
Logan - fire
Natalie - water
James - weather
Devin - plants
Sam - metal
Matt - ice
How they got these powers they do not know but, they later find out that a doctor (Dr!. Perez) gave them these powers when they were babies!. He steals Sam and Matt when they were babies, and they have been kept in this building their hole life never really seen the outside world!. But later break out and go home with the kids!. (They find out how they got their powers from a witness that was there, Amber, they meet when she almost runs Devin over!. It so happens that Dr!. Perez accidentally gives Amber the power to turn invisible!. When she was trying to stop Dr!.Perez from stealing Sam and Matt!.) Later on in the book they have a new villain that plans to expose there powers to the media, for MONEY!. So they have these adventures while they learn to control their powers, why does Dr!.Perez gives them these special powers, and what does he plans to do with them!?!?!?

I am writing on a topic similar to this and have gotten many good pieces of advice from my friends:
1!. CHANGE UP THE POWERS!!! Elemental powers have been done like a million times! They're still cool, but be more creative! Check out the Charlie Bone series for some cool ideas - some of the powers in there include clothing enchanting and picture traveling!. You could use this for inspiration to create new powers that have never been done before!.
2!. EXPLAIN THEIR BACKGROUNDS!!! Write a full history of each of your main characters!. The readers don't need to know the character's full histories but you do!. This will help you fit into the character's shoes and make decisions that would be right for them - i!.e!. if you have a character who's very shy, would they actually do something very courageous out of nowhere!? See J!.K!. Rowling's biography - she actually has a whole childhood written out for Sirius Black!.
2a!. DEFINE YOUR CHARACTERS!!! Know each of your characters' personalities specifically - this will also help you help them make decisions!. Think about their influnces and ideas!.
3!. ADD MORE TWISTS!!! You must keep your story real by adding twists and creating new dilemmas for the characters!. Otherwise, the story gets very boring very quick!. also, get the characters involved with eachother and define their relationships!. Create enemies and friends based on their own personal preferences!. This will also make your story more interesting!.
