Sweet! Okay, /Gone/ is a great sci-fi!. Totally look into it!. City of Bones and its sequel, City of Ashes is fantastic, with just the right amount of romance and action!. Please look into Ursula K!. LeGuin if you want more books, because she is the SciFi queen!. Umm, theres also Ulysses and Beowulf!. I would suggest anything with Merlin!. Scott Westerfeld's Uglies Trilogy is set in the future, which isn't exactly this girl's taste, but I think she would like it!. also consider A Wrinkle In Time and its companions (Swiftly Tilting Planet, ect), they are really good and teach life lessons as well!. Hope this helps, and please tell her that she has a good taste in books! Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think the best thing in the area you're looking for is the Earthsea trilogy, by Ursula Le Guin!. The first book is called A Wizard of Earthsea!.

I also really like The Chronicles of Prydain, by Lloyd Alexander--first book "The Book of Three!." Note that this series is maybe for 11 year olds, but I've re-read it many times as an adult and I think a 14-year old could still love it!.

Perhaps the best single book of all time is Dune, by Frank Herbert!. It's a little more adult in themes than the books you mention, but not in any way graphic or vulgar!. I first read it at 14!.

Watership Down by Richard Adams is a very different kind of book!. It's a fantasy, but not swords/sorcery type!. It's easy on one level and very deep on another!.

Finally, a non-fantasy book: Homecoming, by Cynthia Voigt!. It's just a great book with a young heroine who doesn't have any magic or special violence!. She's just brave and true!.

Oh my, I almost forgot--The Last Unicorn, by Peter S!. Beagle!. Not at all cutesy (which you might think from the title), it's a warm and moving story with what feels like real magic!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Um, maybe

The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle
To Kill a Mockingbird
A Song for Summer
