Yes, they are SO much better than the Twilight series, in my opinion!. The narrator/main character has a backbone, does a minimum amount of whining, and actually manages to think and act on her own, unlike a certain other fictional female narrator!.!.!.

Here's the Amazon!.com summary of A Great and Terrible Beauty (because I'm horrible at giving summaries - I always either give hardly any information, or give too much and spoil the book):
A Victorian boarding school story, a Gothic mansion mystery, a gossipy romp about a clique of girlfriends, and a dark other-worldly fantasy--jumble them all together and you have this complicated and unusual first novel!.
Gemma, 16, has had an unconventional upbringing in India, until the day she foresees her mother’s death in a black, swirling vision that turns out to be true!. Sent back to England, she is enrolled at Spence, a girls’ academy with a mysterious burned-out East Wing!. There Gemma is snubbed by powerful Felicity, beautiful Pippa, and even her own dumpy roommate Ann, until she blackmails herself and Ann into the treacherous clique!. Gemma is distressed to find that she has been followed from India by Kartik, a beautiful young man who warns her to fight off the visions!. Nevertheless, they continue, and one night she is led by a child-spirit to find a diary that reveals the secrets of a mystical Order!. The clique soon finds a way to accompany Gemma to the other-world realms of her visions "for a bit of fun" and to taste the power they will never have as Victorian wives, but they discover that the delights of the realms are overwhelmed by a menace they cannot control!. Gemma is left with the knowledge that her role as the link between worlds leaves her with a mission to seek out the "others" and rebuild the Order!.

The books are much less clique-y than that summary makes them sound, though!. The second and third books go in deeper (plot-wise) than the first one, obviously!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I love each of these books but I would have to Twilight is better!.

It also depends what your more interested in!.

Twilight is basically a love story the whole time with minimal action scenes or conflicts!. Which is something that I would prefer over fantasy anyday!.

A great and terrible beauty has a lot of fanasy!. In my opinion I hated whenever the girls went into the realms!. I am totally not a fantasy person so you understand how hard it was for me to read about boring things like the realms and magic!. What i did love about these books was the love storyline between Gemma, Simon Middleton, and Kartik!. But that really doesnt happen until the second book!. And the third book was the best out of all of them!. Due to the fact that the love storyline was major in that book!.

Depends on the what category or type of books you like to read, Twilight is pretty bad IMO so any other book would definitely be a better read!.
