Question: Would i like the Vampire chronicles!? What's it like!?
Ive been intrested in reading Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles for a while, so i was wondering what they're like (without spoiling them too much obviously)

Please dont reccomend other books, ive read twilight and everything before you mention it, that's actually the reason i was asking about this book - vampires etc!.!.

Soo yeah is it good!?

I know its meant to be quite a serious book!.!. it can be quite errotic in parts so its a big step away from the other books ive read (i!.e twilight)

So i was wondering if someone could give me a small and simple summary of the books without ruining anything for me!.

And also explain how they're set out a bit, because when i checked wikipedia it was rather confusing, coz you have the main set of books!. then there was about 4 others and then a witch sister series or something

Then some crossovers or something :S

So also if you could give me the proper order etc!.

Any detailed answers would be greatly appriciated!.

10 points to best answer :)

Thanks guys!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Actual order of the VC:

Interview with the Vampire
The Vampire Lestat
The Queen of the Damned
The Tale of the Body Thief
Memnoch the Devil
The Vampire Armand
Merrick
Blood and Gold
Blackwood Farm
Blood Canticle

She also wrote the following:

New Tales of the Vampires - Pandora and Vittorio the Vampire!. They are not directly related to the chronicles because Lestat is not part of either of these books!.

The Mayfair Witches - The Witching Hour, Lasher and Taltos!.
This series merges with the Vampire Chronicles in the book Merrick!.

Before you proceed to read Merrick you should read the Mayfair Witches trilogy to be better able to understand what happens from that book forward!.

Very brief plotlines:

Interview with the Vampire - introduces Lestat!. In order to understand who he is, you need to read this book first, as Lestat is the "glue" that binds the Vampire Chronicles!. In this book we are also introduced to a key character: Louis!. Several other recurrent characters are also first mentioned in this book!.

The Vampire Lestat - furthers Lestat's story in present time and how his actions end up waking up one of the first ones (the first vampires)!. It also furthers Lestat's character development!.

The Queen of the Damned - pretty much provides the story of the origin of vampires in Anne Rice's vampire universe!. The main plot involves the madness of the Queen of all vampires (hence the title) and how she almost destroys all vampires!.

The Tale of the Body Thief - almost reads like a stand alone and I found it completely unremarkable!. Involves Lestat's vampire body being stolen from him and his soul being placed in the body of a mortal!. Of course, he manages to recover his real body!.

Memnoch the Devil - couldnt' finish this one!. Involves Lestat's interaction with the Devil!. I don't care about religious themes and this one is heavy on those!.

The Vampire Armand - title is self-explanatory, tells the story of Armand, a recurrent character in the series!.

Merrick - almost a stand alone, merges the Vampire Chronicles with the Mayfair Witches, although the Mayfairs in this book are a branch of the family not mentioned in the original Mayfair witches trilogy!.

Blood and Gold - tells Marius' story!. He's also a recurrent character in the series!.

Blackwood Farm - this one is the book that I feel fully merges the Mayfair Witches and the Vampire Chronicles!. Tells the story of Quentin, who falls in love with one of the Mayfairs!.

Blood Canticle - disastrous and disapointing conclusion to the Vampire Chronicles!.

I recommend the series to be read this way:

Interview with the Vampire
The Vampire Lestat
The Queen of the Damned

The Tale of the Body Thief and Memnoch the Devil (you can live without reading these ones though)

Blood and Gold
The Vampire Armand
Pandora (yes, it is not really part of the Chronicles BUT Pandora's life is intertwined with that of Marius)

The Mayfair witches trilogy

Merrick
Blackwood Farm

Blood Canticle

You can probably find Interview with the Vampire in your local library!. If so, get it that way!. Anne Rice has a huge fandom, however, many find her style too verbose and slow for their taste!. Don't spend money on the series until you are sure you find her style to your liking!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

They are really good but in my eyes, no vampire books beat Twilight, I'm afraid!.
They have romance and stuff in them but I consider it to be less convincing and realistic!. Twilight is much more believable!.
Twilight is also easier to read and grasp whereas the Chronicles have a lot more for you to take in!.
They are much darker and the vampires in it are nothing like SMeyer's, so there is nobody similar in any way to the beautiful Edward Cullen!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i have only read one book in the vampire chornicles, and that is interview with the vampire!. it was actually a very good book!. yes, i would reccomend it!. it is amazing what a talent anne rice is!. i dont' want to give away too much, but it is about a plantation owner who is (in a way) forced to become a vampire, not knowing all of the strange experiences that come with being a vampire and having to go through immortality feeling its length and the lonelieness of it, while struggling to retain his humanity!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I haven't read them in awhile, but I loved them!. They follow the lives of vampires throughout history documenting their struggles with each other and humans!. They can be a bit melancholy in tone as the vampires struggle with the morality of killing to survive, and watching their human friends die!. Generally each book documents the history of a certain vampire, although the central character, Lestat, has several!. And just a warning, you say you know that it is erotic in parts, but it is homoerotic in others (romance, not graphic sex)!.

There are three series that occur in the same universe!. The Vampire Chronicles, Lives of the Mayfair Witches, and New Tales of the Vampires!.

The Vampire Chronicles (in order):
Interview with the Vampire
The Vampire Lestat
The Queen of the Damned
The Tale of the Body Thief
Memnoch the Devil
The Vampire Armand
Merrick
Blood on Gold
Blackwood Farm
Blood Canticle

New Tales of the Vampires (it is not necessary to read these):
Pandora (I suggest reading this in between Memnoch the Devil and The Vampire Armand)
Vittorio the Vampire (I suggest any time after Pandora)

Lives of the Mayfair Witches (read the entire series at any point before Merrick--when the universes begin to collide):
The Witching Hour
Lasher
Taltos

If you're not sure if you'll like them, just buy Interview with the Vampire!. It's capable of standing alone!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hello,

Books are very inexpensive, especially from Amazon!. You can also buy books second hand at an even cheaper cost!.

Therefore is no need to carefully consider which books you might want to read!. Just buy them and read them!. If you don't like it, put it on your book shelf or give it to a charity shop!. No harm, no foul!.

Here are some things that you DO have to carefully consider:

Marrying Someone
Buying a House
Having Children
Taking that Job in London even though the commute is going to be a *****!.

In summary then, try to get something of a grip on what's really important in life!.

hey!.!.!.!.!.ill lyk tell u bout d diffrent books n wt dey r bout!.!.!.k!?
Interview With The Vampire
This is the story of the Louis, as told in his own words, of his journey through mortal and immortal life!. Louis recounts how he became a vampire at the hands of the radiant and sinister Lestat and how he became indoctrinated, unwillingly, into the vampire way of life!. His story ebbs and flows through the streets of New Orleans, defining crucial moments such as his discovery of the exquisite lost young child Claudia, wanting not to hurt but to comfort her with the last breaths of humanity he has inside!. Yet, he makes Claudia a vampire, trapping her womanly passion, will, and intelligence inside the body of a small child!. Louis and Claudia form a seemingly unbreakable alliance and even "settle down" for a while in the opulent French Quarter!. Louis remembers Claudia's struggle to understand herself and the hatred they both have for Lestat that sends them halfway across the world to seek others of their kind!. Louis and Claudia are desperate to find somewhere they belong, to find others who understand, and someone who knows what and why they are!.

Louis and Claudia travel Europe, eventually coming to Paris and the ragingly successful Theatre des Vampires--a theatre of vampires pretending to be mortals pretending to be vampires!. Here they meet the magnetic and ethereal Armand, who brings them into a whole society of vampires!. But Louis and Claudia find that finding others like themselves provides no easy answers and in fact presents dangers they scarcely imagined!.

The Vampire Lestat
The Vampire Lestat, whom we first met in Interview With the Vampire , has his own story to tell!. Anne Rice's second book in The Vampire Chronicles follows Lestat through the ages as he conducts his own search for his origins and to find meaning in what has happened to him!. Unlike the cruel and dark Lestat we saw in Interview, this book reveals a sympathetic figure with his own blend of morality, romanticism, and bravery!. Lestat has been asleep for fifty-five years and awakes entranced with the modern world!. He becomes a superstar rock musician and millions of fans fall under his spell!. Breaking the vampire code of silence, Lestat reveals himself to the world in the hopes that the world's immortals will rise and join together to solve the mystery of their, and his, existence!.

The novel moves effortlessly back in time to eighteenth century France, the world of Lestat's chilhood artistocracy, as he tells his story!. From his childhood struggles against his father through free and easy eighteenth century Paris as an actor, and his making into a vampire!. We travel with Lestat as he searches for other vampires, sometimes alone, sometimes with the haunting Gabrielle, sometimes with the devastating Nicolas!. Lestat circles Europe searching for his origins, and for clues to the birth of the vampire, but he finds that the seminal answers elude him!. Through his travels and searches, Lestat also makes enemies of vampires who are terrified that his wanderings and searchings will disrupt their coexistence with mortals, or that he will attempt to rule them all!. And when Lestat finds the very first vampires, he finds his seminal truths, but also unleashes ancient forces and the wrath of his enemies!. Lestat, hunter, has become the hunted!.
