There are different kinds of editors!. Some copyeditors do freelance work and will "clean up" your submission!. In my opinion, they are a waste of your time and money!. If you are serious about a career in writing, you should learn the rules of spelling and grammar as well as manuscript formatting and there are plenty of ways to do it!. Some agents also give their clients editorial advice, but some do not!.

"Publisher" refers to the CEO or in some instances the owner of a publishing house (business)!. Publishers employ editors to read and purchase manuscripts and edit them!. As a rule, you do not query a publisher, but an editor at a particular publishing house!. Or your agent queries editors, usually ones s/he has sold to in the past and has developed a relationship with them!. Very few editors will accept unsolicited manuscripts, however, they will often take queries directly from writers!. You can find out specific editors and their submission requirements by researching online or through Writers Market!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You shoudl get your book edited before you query an agent; then if the angent finds potential in your query, they ask you for the manuscript to look over; most publishers do not accept any new submissions from writers directly!.
