Question: Can anyone recommend some historical fiction for me please!?
I just started reading The Other Boleyn Girl and wasn't expecting to like it, I'm not into romance or "bodice rippers" but I love this!. I realy like the novelisation of the Tudor period!. And I love history!.

So please can you recommend any other novels like this!. Not necessarily the same period (16th century) - I don't mind which period or even country it is about!.

Thanks in advance!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Devil in the White City (by Erik Larson)!. It's about the famous World's Fair of 1893, held in Chicago, where two men simultaneously worked on their own "projects": Daniel Burnham, the famous architect who directed the fair and came up with the "White City" that drew millions of people to visit, and H!.H!. Holmes, a handsome doctor who used the opportunity that the Fair provided to lure people to their deaths in a horrible hotel he had built just for that purpose!. True story, gruesome as it is--Holmes was America's first serial killer!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm currently reading "The Handmaid's Tale" by Margaret Atwood and I have "Mary, Called Magdalene" and "Helen of Troy," both by Margaret George, set aside to read next!.

All were recommended by Y!A answerers, and I absolutely love "The Handmaid's Tale" so far!. I, too, got really hooked on historical fiction by "The Other Boleyn Girl," and needed more to read!. I tried to read the "sequels" to Gregory's book, but I found them hard to get into!. Maybe I'll try again sometime when I'm not so busy!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would recommend "The Alchemist's Daughter", by Katherine McMahon, which is really good!. It's about a girl in the early 18th century whose life is consummed with science until she marries against her father's wishes!. I didn't think I'd like it at first (similar to you with The Other Boleyn Girl, I expect), but really enjoyed it at the end of the day!. You can buy a copy, and read reviews of the book here: http://www!.amazon!.co!.uk/Alchemists-Daugh!.!.!.

The book I am about to recommend you to read was originally meant to be a child's fiction book - however, adults tend to enjoy it just as much if not more!.
It is "The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas" by John Boyne!.
It is set during hitler's war and is an absolutely amazing read!.
It's about a young boy whose Father is a Nazi extremely with extremely close ties to Hitler!. The young boy becomes friends with another young boy in a concentration camp (they speak through the fence)!.
The book gets better with every chapter (I don't want to give much away)!. I promise you, you won't be disappointed!. It's brilliant!. Please read it!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Some of my favorites are Sharon Kay Penman's novels about medieval Britain, especially Here Be Dragons, Falls the Shadow, and The Reckoning!. She's pretty well respected for accuracy, but she also tells a ripping good yarn - though it would be hard not to with people as colorful as the Plantagenets!

I also have a list of historical fiction here: http://www!.squidoo!.com/noorilibrarytheme!.!.!.

It's intended as a resource for homeschoolers and other educators, so it focuses on children's and ya historical fiction, but there is some for adults in there as well, and a very wide mix of eras and countries, so I hope you will find something to interest you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You might enjoy the novels of Jean Plaidy!. I used to love them when I was young, and most of them are still in print!. My favourite was 'Murder Most Royal' which is about Anne boleyn and Katherine Howard, but she wrote novels about most of the kings and queens of england, and some other kings and queens of France, Scotland etc!. Her books were very well-researched, and all the historical details are accurate!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Try books by Tracy Chevalier such as Girl with the Pearl earringg or Fallen Angels!. The rose of Sebastopol is also good by Katherine Mcmahon!. Sashenka by Simon Montefiore, the Observations by Jane Harris, Atonement by Ian Mcewan, the book thief by Markus Zusak!. You could also try the other books written by the same author as The other Boleyn Girl!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

For English History, try Bernard Cornwall's "Sharpe" series!. These tell of an British officer during the Napoleonic Wars!. also, try his King Arthur Series, "Enemy of God," etc!.

For America History, try John Jakes!. I found him to be a bit too romantic, but that sound like what you like, and Jakes does it very well! Start with "The Bastard!." It's the first of eight books about one American family!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

My favourites are the two classics: Ken Follett's "Pillars of the Earth" and -especially- Noah Gordon's "the Physician"!.
There's also Donna Woolfolk Cross' Pope Joan, which I guess you might prefer to the above two, if you liked the other boleyn girl!.
Enjoy
