In most thrillers, "hardware" consists of big guns, airplanes, military vehicles, and weapons that make things explode!. Dan Brown has written a thriller for those of us who like our hardware with disc drives and who rate our heroes by big brainpower rather than big firepower!. It's an Internet user's spy novel where the good guys and bad guys struggle over secrets somewhat more intellectual than just where the secret formula is hidden--they have to gain understanding of what the secret formula actually is!.
In this case, the secret formula is a new means of encryption, capable of changing the balance of international power!. Part of the fun is that the book takes the reader along into an understanding of encryption technologies!. You'll find yourself better understanding the political battles over such real-life technologies as the Clipper Chip and PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) software even though the book looks at the issues through the eyes of fiction!.

Although there's enough globehopping in this book for James Bond, the real battleground is cyberspace, because that's where the "bomb" (or rather, the new encryption algorithm) will explode!. Yes, there are a few flaws in the plot if you look too closely, but the cleverness and the sheer fun of it all more than make up for them!. There are enough twists and turns to keep you guessing and a lot of high, gee-whiz-level information about encryption, code breaking, and the role they play in international politics!. Set aside the whole afternoon and evening for it and have finger food on hand for supper--you may want to read this one straight throughWww@QuestionHome@Com

Interesting!
Dan Brown's books all seem to follow the same format but still they are INTERESTING!. The subject material changes but the rest of the story seems to fall into his own cookie cutter outline!.Digital Fortress is also signature Dan Brown!.

However, I enjoyed this book because I'm interested in computers and security and while his references to this subject matter have many inaccuracies overall it is still entertaining to read about!. If you're looking for a first time Dan Brown read or a mystery thriller, stick to Da Vinci Code or better yet Angels and Demons!. But if you're looking for more Dan Brown or want a fun, light read about computer security issues, try picking this one up!.!.

Its like!.!.an interesting book!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I read all four of Dan Brown's books!. I confess, Digital Fortress is my least favorite of his books!. That said, I'm a huge Dan Brown fan and loved Digital Fortress!

It contains none of the religious implications of Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons!. It was the story of the world's most powerful, fastest super-computer, and something goes terribly wrong while the computer was taking too long trying to decode a message!. I won't tell you more because I don't want to spoil it, but it's definitely worth reading!. I think it's my least favorite because I found the characters less compelling!. also, as a computer programmer, I found some of the story a bit unrealistic, but that's too be expected -- fiction isn't reality! It was still a fast moving story, fairly unpredictable and suspenseful!.

My favorite Dan Brown book was actually Deception Point!. In Deception Point, there are murders surrounding a recent scientific discovery that could change the world: fossils hidden in an ancient meteorite, proving life in space! It was very well done, great characters, many excellent twists in the plot, and overall an excellent book!.

Angels and Demons was a great book, but kind of fell apart in the end, in a scene I won't reveal in case you haven't read it, but honestly, the ending scene stretched credulity beyond its breaking point!.

I would definitely recomment all 4 books!

(I wonder what's taking so long for his 5th book!.!.!. "The Solomon Key"!?)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Digital Fortress is awesome but Angels and Demons is even better (I think they are making that into a film too)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Not as good as Davinci Code, but still decent to read, not too predictable!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
