Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Stephen King's IT is definitely very creepy - have you tried The Shining!? I think that's his best novel!. I would love to find a book that really does scare me but so far, the creepiest one I've read is 'The Ghosts of Sleath' by James Herbert!. There was just this one moment in the book when someone hears the sound of children singing in a school building that had been empty for years!. The way it was written and described just made me shiver!. 'The Rats' & 'Domain' by James Herbert are actually pretty scary too!.Www@QuestionHome@Com I wished I could remember the name of the book, but I read it in the 70's!. It was about a portrait of a woman and a fierce looking dog!. Each night the moon would shine on the portrait and the dog would come to life and attack & kill people!. It was scary!Www@QuestionHome@Com Without a doubt, The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty!. Ghost Story by Peter Straub is very scary too and I loved Heart Shaped Box by Stephen King's demon spawn Joe Hill!. As an author, Misery by Stephen King scared me too!. Same thing with the Super Scary Stories for Sleepovers series!. They all have short stories!. Otherwise S K is quite mild!
