Calling all TWILIGHTERS! What is with the Team Edward and Team Jacob stuff?

Question: Calling all TWILIGHTERS! What is with the Team Edward and Team Jacob stuff!?

Now, this may seem like a dumb question to all you Twilighters, but what is this Team Edward and Team Jacob stuff!?
I am in love with the books, and have read them all, but nowhere in the books does it say anything about 'teams'!.
I only just finished reading 'Breaking Dawn' a few days ago and I didn't start to read the series when 'Twilight' first came out!. I started reading them in the middle/end of July!.
Is it something that was made up when the books first came out, or what!?
I am assuming that it has something to with their relationships with Bella or something, and who ends up with her, but am I completely oblivious!?
What does all this mean!?
I truly love Twilight and I am obsessed, but I have no idea what this is, and I feel like I am missing out, because I don't know what this means!.

Don't worry, it's totally not dumb, i used to question it myself!.

And yes, the 'teams' surround Bella's relationship with Edward and Jacob!.

The ones who say that they are Team Edward are saying that they favor Edward to be in a relationship with Bella and not Jacob!.

Those who chose Jacob over Edward call themselves Team Jacob

And those who love both Edward and Jacob, are Team Switzerland, referring to when Bella called herself Switzerland, meaning choosing no side!. (since Switzerland, the country, barely goes into war)

Well it was something Stephanie Meyer made!. Basically it's like if you want Bella to end up with Edward, you're Team Edward!.
If you want Jacob to be with Bella then you're Team Jacob!.
I first found out about it when my friend bought me the special edition of Eclipse and there were these iron-ons in the back of the book!. One said Team Edward and the other, Team Jacob!.

I'm Team Edward!. I can only imagine how mad Team Jacob was when they finished Breaking Dawn!. lol [:Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well basically it means that, All the people who favor Edward of Jacob are on a team supporting Edward!. And all the people who like Jacob over Edward are on a Jacob team!. I haven't decided who I'll join yet! also it determines who you want Bella to end up with!. All who are undecided are on team SwitzerlandWww@QuestionHome@Com

Some people prefer Jacob Black because they like him more!. they probably like his personality and that kind of thing!.
People who like Sexy hot vampires named edward(me) like his peronsality and just like him better because he is better!. They like how he is just more awesome !.!.!.That kind of thing!.

They are teams on who you agree with!. Like team Edward stands up for what Edward believes in and Jacobs team ect!. It has nothing to do with real teams from the book!. Twilighters like me made there own type of "cult"

Ok Its very common to not understand!. I didn't understand either at first!.
Remember how it was hard for Bella to choose at the Prom who to dance with - jake or Edward!? Or how she was in love with both Jake and Edward!? So people chose teams - if they love Jake, they are on TEAM JAKE or TEAM EDWARD if in love with edward! It has nothing to do with the book, really, but we just like doing it for fun!. Stephenie made it up in Special Edition Eclipse!
