Question: Another HP question!? about snape!.!.!.
maybe a few Spoilers, I dk!.!.!.
anyways-
okay, so when Dumbledore and Trelawney were talking in the Hog's Head Inn back in 1981, Snape overheard the first part of Trelawneys prophecy about Voldemort and harry!. then the bartender caught Snape listening, and Trelawney and Dumbledore saw Snape!. What I'm wondering is- was Snape a Death Eater at that time!? If he was, it would seem that Dumbledore would have kept him from leaving to tell Voldemort (unless Dumbledore simply didn't know!.) Or was Snape not a Death Eater yet, but wanted to be one, so he gave the prophecy to Voldemort!?!?

Snape was a Death Eater at the time he eavesdropped on Dumbledore and Trelawney!. The bartender caught him halfway through hearing the Prophecy and he told Dumbledore, but Snape made up some excuse that he wasn't eavesdropping!. Dumbledore did know that Snape was a Death Eater, he had a lot of information, but after Snape was caught he was thrown out of the bar!.
Since Trelawyney also saw and heard Snape, that must mean that she had already finished the Prophecy!. I don't think Dumbledore could have been sure what Snape did or did not hear, and whether or not he was there for some other reason!. He did always look for the good in people didn't he!?
If I were you, I'd read Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, somewhere near the end right before Harry leaves with Dumbledore to the cave and the locket Horcrux!. That's when Trelawney tells Harry about Snape eavesdropping!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
He was already a Death Eater by that point!. He was eavesdropping!.
He went back and told Voldemort about the prophecy, not realizing that Voldemort would think it had anything to do with Lily Potter!. Voldemort decided to go kill the Potters, and Snape begged him not to kill Lily!. Voldemort agreed not to, but he did anyways!. Snape ended up brokenhearted and hated Voldemort for killing her!. At that point, Snape went to Dumbledore and told him he was coming back to the good side and turning spy!. Hoorah!Www@QuestionHome@Com
Snape was a death eater at that time but dumbledore didn't no that snape was listening at the door so i gueess no 1 cod prevent it!. And after snape tells voldemort about the prophecy he cums to dumbledore and asks him if he can save lily potter cuz he luvs lily's mother u no but she stilll dies and thats wen snape goes ovr 2 anti voldy side!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
In the 7th book (I believe it's toward the end of the book) It says Snape was already a Death Eater when he was spying on Dumbledore!. He then became a double agent for the Order of the Pheonix, choosing that over biend killed by Aberforth!. Yes, Snape was already a death eater that time that is why he told Voldemort part of prophecy!. I think Dumbledore did not stop Snape because the prophecy was still being said by Professor Trelawney at that time!. He would miss it if he stop Snape from leaving!. And Dumbledore doesn;t mind because he knows Snape only knew bits of the whole prophecy!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
yea im pretty sure he was a death eater at the time nd dumbeldore had no idea that he even heard or that he was a death eater but later on when snape joined the good side dumbeldore founf out isnt it such a great series :)
