The whole preface is just telling how Bella felt about Nessie!. She was willing to die to have her baby, as we found out in the book!. Nessie was killing her, feeding off her, but she would not sacrifice her own baby so that she could live!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i dont know! i would've asked the same question!.!.!.cuz bella never had to kill anyone that she loved, like the volturie sure, but she doesn't love them! i understand the facing death and stuff, but not the whole "killing the one you love"!.!.!.maybe shes talking about not wanting to kill nessie! like she knew she was facing death (nessie was killing her) but she loved nessie so she didn't want to kill her u know!?!!?
