Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Not everyone can be a writer!.
You have to be able to express yourself in a manner people can understand!.
It is very important for a writer to be able to spell and use correct grammar!.
A good spell checker can catch a lot of mistakes, but you have to use it!.
It took Alex Haley ten years to write the book "Roots!."
I write short stories!. I can write one in about a half-an-hour!. Then I spend another half-an-hour editing!.
You can't do that with a book!.
If you want to do it right!.
The first thing you need is an idea!.
Then you need characters!.
Then you need to outline the book!.
As you write you need to focus on using correct English!.
Editing is a hard job!. If you know someone who can help you with it , then ask for help!
Good luck!

Suggest, first: do not judge your cousin's ability to write by how many pages she churns out!. Have you read her book!? Is it good!? If you say yes to both questions, why is it good!?

Second: you'll need to start in with the good grammar and punctuation habits, now, with ALL your writing, everywhere!. Practice makes perfect, or at least closer to it!. You need practice!.

Third: read good books, write, observe all life around you as material for stories, because that is what it is!. REALLY observe!. You can even take notes if you keep a book handy as your reason to be there (a public place)!.!.!.
Reading, practiced writing, observations-- they can all lead to a good story!.

Fourth: A good story counts a lot more than the number of pages written!.
Best of luck!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It takes a lot of practice, reading, concentration, and disapline!. Start off writing relatively short pieces, building up the word count each time!. I would suggest writing down your plot and actually planning it before writing, so you don't loose interest!. If you loose interest during planning, then it might not be such a good idea!. Just remember not to back out if you are writing something seriously!. If you need to take a few months off, do it then!. I have been writing the same novel for about a year now (I planning the beginning, and now I am writing the beginning and planning out the middle) and I am only on chapter three!. I have taken many breaks!. Sometimes I am too distracted to write well!. Okay, then don't write that day!.

Another route would be waking up early every day or staying up late or whatever time you write best, and sit down and force yourself to write 500 words each day, building that count up when you find it easy!. I tried that for about a month and found it didn't work for me!. When I do sit and write, I aim for about 500 words though!.

Good luck and keep on writing! Maybe try asking your cousin also!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Just because a book is 300 pages long does not make it any good!. If the writer has talent, then the length of pages doesn't matter!.

Here's my advice!. Start out by reading!. I read at least one book a day!. The more you read, the more you learn!. Not only do you fill your mind with stories, but you learn grammar, punctuation and how to properly build a plot, characters, etc!.

Another tip is to keep a journal with you at all times!. Any time you have a daydream, write it down!. Any time a good story idea comes to you, write it down!. Then, later, go over the ideas and develop them!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I can predict that if you write it like you've written this post, you should like have like, I don't know, like 500 pages in like no time!.

Sure hope you meant this as a joke!. If not, you should get some grammar reference books, a good dictionary, and start reading a lot!. After that, practice your writing and drop repetitive wording such as "like"!. Make a conscious effort to write PROPERLY even in forums or chat!. Small changes will get you into the habit of writting correctly at all times, and that will help you out in the long run!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

A couple less punctuation marks and you'll be on your way!.

Okay serious answer time!. Talk to her and ask her how she does it!. Write random things, then proofread and edit them!. Reading other people's works is good, too!.

It takes motivation to be a writer, so you better be set!

-Read (a lot)!. Study how each writer makes specific choices in the use of language to convey meaning!.
-Size does not matter, at least in literature!. Some of the best literary works are relatively short!.
-Learn to use "like" or take it out of your vocabulary!. Now!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
