(i was listening to bohemian rhapsody earlier today)
friend:i like the song bohemian rhapsody
me: how ironic i was just listening to that!

it's a no!.

it was coincidence that both of you did something related to that song (u listened to it, your friend mentioned it)

it would be ironic if you hated that song so much that you would barf at the next reference to it, and your friend comes up to you and says I LIKE THAT SONG

irony is smtg that happens contrary to what is expected/ opposite to what is expected!. it may not always be a surprise though!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

There are different schools of Irony actually!. Like Humor Irony, Literary Irony, Dramatic Irony, Tragic Irony, and your story is closely represented by Situational Irony which is "a discrepancy between the expected result and actual results when enlivened by 'perverse appropriateness'"
