Question: Books that have changed your life
I'm looking for some books that will dramatically change my outlook on life!.

I've only had that happen a few times in the past; most books I read are just trash!.

What have you read that has changed your outlook, and what sort of book was it!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Can't believe no one has mentioned The Perks Of Being A Wallflower!

That book seriously changed my life!. Even more so than Catcher In The Rye did!. Those are both my two favorite books, by the way!.
I have read Perks about ten times, literally!. It's just impossible to describe, but I suggest reading it!. No no, I more than suggest, I really really INSIST that you read it!.

Fair warning; Charlie (main character) is very naive, too naive to be believable - but still amazing!.

Anyway, I won't even both describing it - I'll just leave it up to you to read it yourself!. If you liked Catcher In The Rye that much, I pretty much guarantee that you'll love Perks also, and it will change your life also!.

Oh and for your Twilight question - it's a generic adolescent book!. It's an extremely cheesy poorly written love story about some obnoxious girl who falls in love with some cheap vampire guy!. I would no recommend it to anyone!. The only people who recommend it are it's 12 year old fan girls who are in fact in love the vampire character!. Quite pathetic!. But whatever!. To each their own, I suppose!.

Anyway, read "The Perks Of Being A Wallflower" by Stephen Chbosky!.

I knew as soon as I saw the headline for this question that some silly little girl would say Twilight!. I mean, you have a right to feel that these books changed your life if you want, but they are not going to change the average person's outlook on life!.

People's outlooks on life are usually changed by writing that actually HAS a deeper meaning, like Steinbeck, Whitman, Frost, Morrison, Orwell, Austen, Bronte, Dickens!.!.!. not Stephen King, Dean Kootz or Stephenie Meyer!.

I love how these girls on here compare Twilight with the greatest literature of all time!. I like the books, but c'mon!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Holy pretentious! Please, no one is impressed that you took a freshman English course and can spout off a bunch of classy sounding books!. If Twilight changed her life, then it changed her life!. I haven't read any Twilight books but I know a good number of well-educated adults who love the stories, maybe there is something to them!.

A few that changed my life were:

To Kill a Mockingbird, way back in 7th grade, because it made me aware of different types of people, and ways of thinking, and was also just a really well written and good story!.

Small Changes, which I read in high school!. It's a story about women and feminism in the 60s and I honestly don't even know if I'd like it now, but when I read it I just wanted to model my whole life on it!.

more recently, Poisonwood Bible!. For many of the same reasons as TKAM, and because it jump-started my interest in historical fiction, which led me into reading more non-fiction, which teaches me a lot and makes me look smart when watching Jeopardy!.

one book cannot do that , one can just impress you, you have to change your lifestyle and try to read more, that will change your "outlook"!. Try the classics: french, germans, english, russians!. You will find a few that will stay in your heart forever!. And remember this: no single act can change you, you have to create a habit, find friends who read and with whom you can change opinions!. I hope you took my message seriously!. I wish you all the best!

P!.S!. my favorites are: Honore de Balzac, Dostoievsky, Victor Hugo, Thomas Mann, Albert Camus, GoetheWww@QuestionHome@Com

White Oleander by Janet Fitch!.

And I scoff at the person who said Twilight!.

Edit: Twilight is a book about a girl who falls in love with a vampire!. It's mediocre, not well written, and sends terrible messages!. While it has interesting ideas, it is most certainly NOT life changing!. And that is why I scoff at the people who say Twilight!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I can't say any fiction I've read has been life changing!. As for non fiction:

Thus Spoke Zarathustra by Friedrich Nietzsche
The Goldern Bough by Sir James Frazer
The Hero with a Thousand Faces by Joseph CampbellWww@QuestionHome@Com

Cut by Patricia McCormick!.
Burned by Ellen Hopkins!.
Crank by Ellen Hopkins!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
