Question: Can anyone suggest an author or a book title that is written in the 1st person!?
Hi! I'm in the process of researching books or authors that take the 1st person POV!. I would like to compare that form written in the present and in the past tense, so any suggestion will be super helpful!. If you have any suggestions, can you also let me know which tense it's written in!? Thanks for your help :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Good books written in first person:

Lolita, Vladimir Nabokov
Midnight's Children, Salman Rushdie
Goodbye, Columbus, Philip Roth
The Kite Runner, Khalid Hosseini
A Farewell to Arms, Ernest Hemingway
Never Let me Go, Kazuo Ishiguro
The God of Small Things, Arundhati Roy
The Sound and the Fury, William Faulkner
The Moonstone, Wilkie Collins
One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest, Ken Kesey
Pale Fire, Vladimir Nabokov
High Fidelity, Nick Hornby
Fight Club, Chuck Palahniuk

High Fidelity and Fight Club are in the present tense; the tense in Pale Fire is a but strange (everything about that book is strange), but it's kind of present!. The first segment of the four parts of the Sound and the Fury is a stream of consciousness that mostly present tense!.

My all-time favorite book "A Time for Dancing" and its sequel "The Farther You Run" both by Davida Wills Hurwin is written in the first person point of view and is in the past tense!. The book is narrated by the two lead characters in alternating chapters and they don't repeat the story and explain their side as what has been done by Wendelin Van Draanen in "Flipped"!.!.!. which honestly really sucked!. Oh btw, "Flipped" is also in the first person POV, though I'm not quite sure what tense it's in!.!. I would guess it's past though!.

Elsewhere on the other hand is in the present tense and is also in the first person POV!.

The TWILIGHT books by Stephanie Meyer is in the first person POV as well, and is in past tense!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

My Sister's Keeper is written in 1st person, and the person telling the story switches throughout the book!. Many of Jodi Piccolt's other books are tld in 1st person I think!. The Twilight Saga is also told in 1st person, and so is A Little Friendly Advice by Siobhan Vivian!.

(I'm not sure if I got the author's names spelt right)Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger - the character Holden Caulfield has a unique point of view and his angst is nearly tangible!. That is probably one of the most powerfully written novels of all time and the first person POV is a good example to use!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

A Northern Light (I don't remember the author!. Sorry!)
It speaks from first person and switches between past and present tense, depending on where the story is and flashbacks and all of that!. It's a pretty good book, too, but I think this might be helpful for you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
