Question: Old literature VS new literature for the next generation!?
Which do you all believe would be more beneficial for growing kids during the next generation: Classics such as The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, works by Robert Frost or Edgar Allan Poe, the Prince and the Pauper, Oliver Twist, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, ect, or modern literature such as Harry Potter, Twilight, and other examples which I can't think of!. As a teen, I believe that the former would be more beneficial, but that's probably because such literature is the reason I am the way I am today!. What are y'all's opinions!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, Im not teen, young adult more, 19, and I'm all way to classics!. Though I read modern literature!. I believe that you have to read the both to be able to learn what is literature and what isn't!. Like, I've read twilight, just finished the first 7 chapters of breaking dawn!. And yesterday I started reading Harry Potter, in English, Im actually practicing a bit as I am not a native speaker and Im moving to England soon!.

Anyway, the point is!. Twilight is not literature at all!. It is not art!. While Potter is!. I mean the style of writing, the management of world, sentences!. It's really great!.

I'd be afraid if the only book that my child would read would be Twilight!. Therefore my children WILL read all the classics and then they can move on and read whatever they want: I am sure that classics help you to realize what literature really is, and then such things that can barely be called literature just won't influence you at all!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Like others, I don't believe a "vs!." has to be there!. I am a member of Gen Z!. and I like some of the classics and some of the contemporaries!. However, if you are a parent and an enthusiastic fan of the classics, it would not be a good idea to force a classic on your teen, regardless of how relevant they are to modern times, because most kids 1) don't appreciate being told what to do in an area that is supposed to be purely opinion, and 2) don't give the highest regards to middle-aged opinions!. Simply make the classics available, and they, like me, will discover them and like some!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't know why there has to be a "vs!." there!. I think young readers can derive benefits from reading both "old" and "new"!. New probably will better keep their interest, and old will help them with vocabulary, style, and the like!. They shouldn't be compare and they shouldn't be placed one against the other!. OK I'm a teen in the 'next generation' league, but that doesn't mean I don't like classics AND Harry Potter, well, Harry Potter ONLY! Twilight IS pathetic :DWww@QuestionHome@Com

Twilight is not literature!.

But yes, the classics are more beneficial, but I think a healthy mix of both is best for readers!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think a balance of both types of literature would be good!.!.!. The classics in some ways are still relevant today!.!.!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
