No, you don't need to!. Well sometimes it depends on what kind of poem you're doing, like Haiku or etc, but besides that, it doesn't really matter!.

'the companion of my little girl!.' Is the continuation of a sentense, therefor you don't need to capitalize it unless the statement before that is a complete sentence!.

For example:

"I am a doctor, a father, and a friend!.
Most importantly, I am the companion of my little girl!."

See!?

If it weren't that way, it'd be:

"I am a doctor, a father, and a friend;
most importantly, I am the companion of my little girl!."

It all depends on how you want to do it!. Good luck with your poem!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Remember that you do not have to capitalize anything that you do not want to if you are freeforming your poem!. The only reason to capitalize it would be for emphasis!. That being said, I would only capitalize the "I" because it means that you are giving yourself another title when saying that you are her companion!. It is your choice of course!. Good luck!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You don't have to capitalize the first letter of each line!. The rule of thumb my creative writing teacher gave me was to capitalize the first letter of each sentence in a poem!. However, capitalization can occur where you want it to!. (ie Emily Dickinson capitalized all nouns!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Traditionally, the first letter of each line would be capitalized, but this is not a prerquisite for a poem!. It really depends of what you want your poem to look like on paper, and maybe what it might say about you as a poet (who does or doesn't capitalize)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It is your poem!. You can do what you want!.

Personally, I like the capitalization of the first letter of each line!. It's also a nice touch to add a larger font for the first letter of each stanza!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It really depends on the author!. If you want to capitalize it you can!.!.!. or you don't have to!. I think it gives it a lot of personality if you choose the way you want your poem to look!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You don't have to!. If you're writing in certain poetic forms, it's required, but if it's just free verse, you can do more or less whatever you want!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

There are no "rules," just different systems!. Look at e!.e!. cummings -- he didn't capitalize anything!. Just pick a style and use it consistently throughout the poem!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

it all depends on how you want the poem to read!. i think the lowercase looks better!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
