Question: What character from the Lord of the Rings is oldest!?
My friend and I have been debating this!. He doesn't trust Wikipedia for some stupid reason, so it's time to bring in the experts! ^_^

also: Citations would be fantastic (I have a copy of Sil handy but I can never find the passages I look for) but are not required!.

Thanks for your input! ^_^Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Tom Bombadil!. He is called the Ageless, or the Oldest!. The guy was there almost since it was created!. Are you talking about LOTR or Middle Earth, cuz Illuvatar (God) or Eru, the One, was oldest then!. :D
LuthienT
EDIT: Sauron and Gandalf come after him, even Gandalf says, (or Aragorn, can't remember) that Tom Bombadil is the Ageless, the Eldest!. He was sent there by the Valar to be a tree guardian!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'll have to go and check the appendicies, I think there might be something in there!.

You might also want to check out the books "The History of Middle-Earth" There are 10 volumes!. It's likely that there would be something in there about Elrond's age!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Sauron is the oldest!. He made the one ring, and existed in that fantasy world for eons, long before The Hobbit even took place!.
