They are the ones who can decide how much technology that community can use!. Generally, the Amish families that I have met don't do anything like an arranged marriage!. Instead they allow their children to marry for love!. They do get married around the age of 18 although that is not fixed, they can be older (but not younger) If you ever read Little House on the Priaire, that is very similar to what Amish women do!. They help with the farm, cook, sew, quilt!. Some also start stores!. I even knew one who was a bit of a tomboy and broke horses with her father!. If an Amish girl falls in love with an outsider I believe there are two choices!. Either he becomes Amish or she leaves the church and the community!. This can be very hard becasue some communites consdier people who have left the church to be "dead" and members of the church (including their families) can no longer have contact with them!. Outsiders are allowed in Amish comminuties, but they must respect the traditions done!. If an Amish girl falls for an outsider, she'll have to wait until she comes of age and decide that for herself!. When Amish girls reach a certain age, they are set free out into the real world for about a year!. Then, they get to decide if they want to stay in the real world or go back to the Amish community!. In an Amish community, marriage is set up around the age of eighteen!. That's only if they decide to stay in the Amish community!. If they don't, then they are free to choose who they want!. But Amish people don't just stay in their community!. They do get out and do things we do--not grocery shopping or anything, as they do everything themselves!. But they do get healthcare and some own automobiles because it is a convenience!. I met a couple of Amish people on a cave tour!. It was a wonderful experience!.
