For pure vampire stories, nothing beats the original Dracula by Bram Stoker!. Scary and sexy!.

However, I also confess to a deep absorption with the Black Dagger Brotherhood, a series of vampire romance/urban fantasy novels by JR Ward!. Once you get past some of the preciousness (a predilection for useless "h"s), the story arc is fascinating!.

ETA: I find it deeply amusing that someone is going through and actually giving thumbs downs to people who don't have Edward Cullen as their favorite!. Go neutrality!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Sita, aka Alisa Perne, from "The Last Vampire" series, by Christopher Pike!.

She was so incredible, as were her stories as a 5,000 year-old vampire who met Krishna, and gave birth to an incarnate of Kali Ma, and met the 21st-century "messiah" when he was born-- an incredible way to interweave Eastern philosophy and vampire horror!. I loved those books like none other!. Probably because it was my first introduction to vampires, and I prefer female protagonists!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
