The only book I even heard of from that list is Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder!. Do not read this book!. Maybe it's just me but that book totally screwed with my head!. I almost took a power drill to my temple after reading that book in highschool!.
Some interesting books I would recommend from experience:
The Tipping Point
This Mans Army
Band of Brothers
Ultimate Zombie Survival Guide
World War Z
and books by Ayn RandWww@QuestionHome@Com

Anything Jodi Picoult and James Patterson!. Then, if you like fantasy, I recommend the "Twilight" saga by Stephanie Meyer!. I heard "Map of Bones" was good, but haven't read it myself!. I also think you should read Agatha Christie if you like mystery!. Her books are great for all ages!.
