I was probably in elementary school when I read it, so I don't remember a lot!. I THINK Dean Koontz wrote it!.
I think there was a locked room murder mystery at the beginning!. The main character (probably a detective) discovers that there are little demon things responsible for the murder!. Then they come after him, his girlfriend, and her little girl (I might be mixing this up with a Repairman Jack book)!.
Other things I remember:
The demons had shiny eyes!. Characters would see the eyes behind vent grilles!. A little girl was leaving or going to school when one of the demons reached out of a storm sewer grate and grabbed her ankle!.
AND I think a blizzard figures into the story!.

At the end the main character learns he can descend into a hole to hell because he is sin-free!. He doesn't think he's sin-free, but another character points out that if he thought he was sin-free, he'd be guilty of self-righteousness!.!.!. or something along those lines!.
