Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Well, this kind of popularity for a book has not happened in quite a while - certainly, it did *not* happen with The Lord of the Rings (whose tremendous popularity has been built over decades)!. Some that have been intensely popular: The Man from La Mancha (publishers made fortunes printing illegal copies, and one author made a bundle by writing a "part 2" that was printed several months prior to the true author's own part 2) Sherlock Holmes Jules Verne's "Voyages Extraordinaires" books Tarzan (probably tops them all in fad popularity) To a lesser extent: The Jungle Books (only 2 in the series) Last really big book fad: Da Vinci Code (people were making a bundle in Europe giving "Da Vinci Code" tours with tour guides who cited their "facts" from this clearly fictional book) This is hardly an exhaustive list, but maybe gives you an idea of fad books!. Personally, I can't recall any book as faddishly popular as Harry Potter in my lifetime - and I'm 46!. The closest thing that comes to mind is Star Wars, and that was movie, not book!. Harry ? http://www!.life-after-harry-potter!.com ?Www@QuestionHome@Com Lord of The Rings definatley because even though Harry Potter was aimed at all audiences, the Kids got more into it whereas I know more adults that like LOR!. also, in Australia i think The Tomorrow Series, because even though there never was a war in Australia then, its written so well that it makes you believe there was!. Quite a cutie he was that Oliver!. All the girls wanted to take care of him and love him!. And of course, Mr!. Dickens included a domestic abuser in the story, too--Bill Sykes!. Everyone lined up with soot on their faces to be in character for the release party!. They had things like pocket picking contests, ale drinking contests!. It was a great time for all!.
