No, the whole book is not fake!. The majority of it is true!. He exaggerated a few parts, and changed some details on a few parts, and Oprah Winfrey went ballistic and tried to wreck his career because of it!. I really lost respect for her for doing that, because he was a fledgling author and she's the most powerful person in show business!. There probably isn't a single autobiography written in history that doesn't have some exaggeration and changes!. I would challenge Oprah to write HER autobiography and to not change or alter details in *any* way!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

okay i read this book and the second to it " my friend leonard" i loved them both cried during the second one , but james frey acctually just added things into the story to make it a better book so it is based on the truth and what happened to him but he did add things, i dont think this should be a reason not to read it because a million little pieces and my friend leonard are both great books and i loved them so i feel you should still read itWww@QuestionHome@Com

I lost respect for Oprah when she crucified Frey, too!. The thing is, his books are CREATIVE nonfiction!. There are always creative elements in memoirs!. If we can't call out every single author who ever wrote a memoir and didn't embellish a little, then it's completely unfair to label one a liar!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's not completely false, but he admitted to fabricating some details and adding details that didn't really happen in order to make the story more interesting!. A lot of authors do this, it's just that his book was supposed to be a memoir and therefore be accurate to his actual life!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

This isn't a bad thing unless you present the results as a true story, which Frey did!. He's not the first (Lorenzo Carcaterra did it, too) and won't be the last!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
