Question: About how long is a typical short story!?
I'm writing this short story as sort of a time filler for when i get back on track with writing my novel, and i decided what better way to get my work out there by writing a short story!. now i havent read one that wasnt in a school textbook, so about how long are they usually!? i need accurate answers please, best answer gets ten points!.!.!.!. o wait, you already knew that lol!. but if you put a filler answer just to get points and it doesnt answer what i asked or doesnt even relate to this topic, u shall be reported!.!.!.!.!. anyways, back on track!.!.!. help!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

It depends on the magazine or other market where you hope to sell the short story!. They each set their own guidelines!.
Generally, "short shorts" are less than 500 words, sometimes less than 250!.
Standard short stories may be from 3,000 to 10,000 words, but different markets are looking for different lengths!. And a few will accept longer stories!.
BTW-- In mainstream fiction and most genres it is easier to sell a novel than a short story!. That's because there are so few publications that include short fiction!. (In some genres like sci-fi and fantasy, this is not true!.)Www@QuestionHome@Com
Micro fiction--under one hundred words!.
Flash Fiction--100 to 1,000 words!.
Short short--1,000 to 2,000 words!.
Short story-- 2,000 to 7,500 words!.
The short story market has shrunk dramatically, so even very good ones may not find a paying home!.
If you're writing a specific genre, identify magazines which publish that sort of story and check their writers' guidelines at their websites!. Some may have longer maximum lengths, or smaller!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
Generally a short story is described as a story that can be read in a single sitting!. If you are lookng to publish your work I would reccomend keeping it around 3500 words in length!. Longer pieces have less of a chance due to the space restrictions in most publications, and shorter pieces (even shorter than 3500 words) are usually prefered!. On average in microsoft word I get about 310 words per double spaced page!. I would reccomend between 5 and 10 double spaced pages!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
Hmm!.!.Short stories have to be long enough to cover the subject, but short enough to be interesting!. It's really according to how long you want to make it!. I'd say between 100-150 pages!.
You don't want it to be too short!.
