Okay, last Friday I returned this book!. I am 100% I did since it took me awhile to get to the library to return that stupid book!. Now the library says I didn't return their book and I owe them around $30!. What do I do!?!!? Last time this happened, I got so mad they called the police on me!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!. and I don't want a repeat of that!. Please on intelligent mature answers!. Our policy was that the patron (you) are responsible for the cost of the book, a small processing fee, and any applicable late fees!. However, we always had at least two different staff members check the shelves (where it should be and places it was likely to have been mis-shelved) in case it was shelved without being checked in properly!. I also was very willing to renew the book in question for a quite a while, so that we could look and the library and the patron could look at home!. I also encouraged patrons to check our shelves if they felt we were overlooking it somehow!. Renewing also allows time for another patron to try to check it out!. If it's scanned out to someone else, it would automatically be removed from your account!. As for what you do, you can speak with a supervisor about renewing the book/checking it out again so that you can look (even though you know you returned, tell them you will continue to look) and ask that they check the shelves again (and do so yourself)!. If the book isn't found, you'll have to pay for it or the costs could go to a collection agency eventually!. The only thing else, you could do is request a complaint form (and complain about poor employee performance or the policy itself)!. Try to remain calm when talking to the staff members, they probably have made a notation of the last incident on your account and will take that into consideration when deciding how to handle your situation this time!.Www@QuestionHome@Com Someone stole my library card awhile ago and checked out 5 movies and guess what!?!? they didn't return any of them My suggestion is that you have them do a book check and you talk to the librarians boss!. also if you go on line I'm sure you can find out the bar code on the book!. Keep this bar in handy if you ever see a book that similar to yours on the shelves because its probably the book you returned!. I went to the library shelf and found the book there!. I took it up to the front counter, and they sheepishly checked it in!. Even if you don't find the book on the shelf yourself, they should discover the mistake!. Eventually, someone will try to check that book out!. When they do, the librarian will discover that it was never checked back in, and she'll have to do so!. Usually, at that point, even if you've paid for the book, they'll refund your money!. Then I went back home to search and found it!. If they can't find it then you HAVE to pay the fine if you want to continue getting library books!. And don't cause a scene have them call the police!.!.!. that makes you look 10x worse!.
