Question: I want my main character to be an antagonist, but that somehow doesnt seam right!. Ideas!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Technically he would be called the protagonist still (Even if it's just the guy believing that he is the good guy)!. The antagonist is the one opposing the main character, so in fact the good guys would be the antagonist!.
Now onto the actual question!. Yes!. That's perfectly fine!. I haven't read many books like that but that doesn't mean it's a bad idea!. Just don't pass his actions off as being justified if he's doing bad things so you don't give the wrong impression!. In the end have him turn good to show that wasn't how he was supposed to be acting!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

What if you wrote the book similarly to Joodie Picoult, and each chapter was narrated by a different character!? Scott Westerfield also used the technique in The Last Days, and it was sort of scary looking out from the eyes of the antagonist! Good luck with your writing!Www@QuestionHome@Com

What doesn't seem right is that most people actually look favourably on an anti-hero sort of character, like Hancock!. You admire him more for his flaws than anything else!. Or Dr House!. It's his lack of bedside manners and lack of a conscience that make him so popular!. In general it's funner to watch and it's funner to read!. I suppose secretely we want to be able to act that way without worrying how we will be perceived by others!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

As someone pointed out, an anti-hero!. A perfectly nice person could be an antagonist if they thwart the plans of the protagonist!.
I like main characters to be evil not wet goody two shoes!. In Lolita, which is about a man obsessed with a 12 year old girl, the man narrates!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's "seem", dear!. Not "seam"!. Sorry, I'm a grammar freak :-)
Anyways, what's an antagonist!? I'll look it up!.!.!.!.

Okay, it says that an antagonist is one who opposes another!. So I guess that would be okay!. :-)Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's possible!.!.
Mostly at stories like that
the antagonist at the end will become
the Protagonist!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
