When I was in middle school I read a book called "My Story" by Alicia Appleman-Jurman (ISBN: 0553282182)!. The author actually came to my school and spoke to us, so it had special meaning to me!. After that I found a book called "Soldat" by Siegfried Knappe (ISBN: 0440215269)!. The former is written by a holocaust survivor!. The latter is written by a soldier in the German regular army, specifically not S!.S!. and, so he claims, not involved in the well known atrocities!. He writes the book from the perspective of a young soldier doing what he was told to do!. I'm not saying that he's right and I'm not saying that he was wrong!. It was quite interesting to me though to have that window into a period in our history that I find so fascinating!. There you have it!
