I've read a few questions like this in the search box thing!.!.!.some people say she took her glasses off to cry but then why did her ghost have glasses!? And then some say stuff about glasses not having a reflection like the water under Mrs!. Norris or the mirror Hermione and Penelope Clearwater used but what about Justin and Colin, who saw it through Nearly Headless Nick and a camera lense respectively!. Did J!.K!. Rowling make a mistake!? If you're interested, star this question because I have a feeling I'm going to be adding a lot more details!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Good question!.

1) How did Moaning Myrtle Die in Harry Potter!. She had glasses!?
Glasses, as said, are for helping the person see!. She saw the Basilisk's eyes directly, not in a reflection - glasses only refract light (air does the same thing), not reflect it (unless you are looking at them from the side)!.

2) what about Justin and Colin, who saw it through Nearly Headless Nick and a camera lense respectively!.

Good question!. If we take the position that Colin's camera was an old model with a mirror (reflective) sight, that explains why he was not killed!. If we take the position that he was using a digital camera, that also allows him to survive!.

However, most likely is that the potency of the basilisk's gaze was reduced because of the optics of a (standard) camera's sight: it reduces! We can surmise that not only the size of the basilisk was reduced when looking in the camera's sight, but also the potency of its gaze (as Colin was looking at two very, very small basilisk eyes through the sight of his camera)!.

As for Justin, NH Nick took the brunt of the Basilisk's "stare"!. Justin didn't get the reduced potency because there was a reflection, but rather because there was something in the way that absorbed much of the potency!. It would be like seeing the basilisk's gaze through a heavy fog - he simply didn't see it clearly, and thus not fully, so he was not killed fully (so to speak)!.

I think it was because she actually looked straight into the basilisk's eyes and get the full stare and the full power of it!.
What I was thinking was that maybe her glasses for too thin or maybe they were half falling off, so that she didn't actually look through them!. Or maybe she only half-looked through them!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

looked in a mirror and saw the monster(forgot name)
the monster has eyes that kill u with a single look in the eyes
if u just look at the monster like at its tail u just get frozen
i remember the monster was some kind of snake
i think it begins with a pWww@QuestionHome@Com

That is a good question!.
Indeed, I think she probabaly did take off her glasses to cry because would cry with your glasses on (if you have glasses)!? But then again, you are right, her ghost did have glasses!. Perhaps J!.K!. Rowling did make a mistake!Www@QuestionHome@Com

J!.K!. must have made a mistake!. I just looked through the book and your right!. Myrtle did have her glasses off when she died, and had them on as a ghost!.

Nick was a filter for Justin!. A camera uses mirrors to reflect!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

one of the slytherin boys had stolen them, and she was in the bathroom crying about it when she saw the basilisk!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't remember her taking off her glasses!.!.!. I remember she looked down and she saw the baskalisk or whatever and she died because of how powerful the reflection was!.!. Hope I helped!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

She took off her glasses to cry, heard a strange voice that sounded like a boy behind her, turned, and stared into the basilisk's eyes!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Cameras have reflective properties and Nick wasn't quite transparent!. Glasses are meant to be completely seen through!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

She died because she looked into the sankes eyes through a reflection but the serpents powers killed her

At least thats what i rememberWww@QuestionHome@Com

I think the basilik attacked her in the bathroom she often went to when she was a student at Hogwarts!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

she took off her glasses to cry and then saw it in the sink when her glasses were off she didnt look through themWww@QuestionHome@Com

You dont cry with glasses on!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

cameras have small mirrors in them i guess and glasses is just glass see through i guessWww@QuestionHome@Com

The day Moaning Myrtle died, Olive Hornby (a girl in her year, I'm guessing) was teasing her about her glasses, so she went into the girls bathroom, took off her glasses and cried!. Then she heard Tom Riddle speaking Parsletounge (snake language) in order to open the Chamber of Secrets (which is in the girls bathroom!. She was in the stall the whole time!. When she heard Tom's voice, she put her glasses back on and stepped outside of the stall to tell him to go away!. The basilisk was there, and she looked it in the eyes and died!. The glasses did not have a reflection!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Don't be too disillusioned if I tell you Rowling made mistakes in her work!. That means her editors did as well, and mistakes are just sometimes made, especially if a writer is in a hurry to put ideas down, and the editor is unsure what is meant or simply made his/her own mistake by not catching an original error!.

I thought Myrtle killed herself, by the way, but don't remember why!. As for the rest of your question about glasses, are you referring to the basilisk, whatever that creature was called who kills with a look!? Perhaps you're reminding me that Myrtle saw this creature and died from it!.

At any rate, Myrtle wore glasses, and there is no reason for her ghost to not continue to do so, just as it continues to wear clothes and moan in the restroom!.
Glasses, as you know, can reflect things at certain angles, just as water sometimes does!. Mirrors, NHNick and the camera lense all put a bit of a shield between the people who saw the basilisk and their naked eye, so they don't die, they only almost do!. As I recall!. Have to say I gave my HP books to a charity!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, I have my copy of HP2 right her (page 299 US) and Myrtle says that she went into the bathroom stall to hide, because Olive Hornby was teasing her about her glasses!. She was crying, and she hears someone say A"!.!.!.something funny!. A different language, I think it must have been!." She thought that it was a boy, and was going to tell him off, but when she unlocked the door she died!. When Harry asked how she says "I just remember seeing a pair of great, big, yellow eyes!. My whole body sort of seized up!.!.!."

Obviously is Finch's cat could be petrified by seeing the eyes through water, they should be powerful enough to kill someone who saw them threw their glasses!.

EDIT:
Although, if Myrtle did take off her glasses to cry, which seems likely, they could have just been in her hand, couldn't they!? So wouldn't they kind of become a part of her (as a ghost form) like cloths!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Some people don't know anything! Oh and I'm not talking about you!. Glasses do to have a reflection, how do I know this!? Because I wear glasses, and they do have a reflection!. And I think that she had her glasses on while she was crying!. And saw the Snake!. She was looking straight at him!. If she had her back to the snake, then I don't think that she would have died!. She would had just been!.!.!.(sorry don't know have to spell that think that happens to mud bloods)!. And Justin and Colin didn't look straight at the Snake!. They saw it threw stuff!. Like Nearly Hedless Nick, and threw a Camera lense!. You have to be looking at it straight in the eye, for it to be able to kill you!. Like Moaning Myrtle did!.

Hope this answers your question!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I should think her ghost wears glasses so she can see properly!. After all, ghosts should walk through walls, not into them!

Edit:

If glasses were basilisk proof, Harry would have been safe behind his glasses!. In a camera, the light is reflected through the lens into the eye piece with a mirror - you can't look directly through the lens, because the film is in the way!. Nearly Headless Nick worked as a shield because he's not completely transparent like glass!.

Plus of course, it's magic!. Magic doesn't have to obey fundamental laws of the universe, because if it did it wouldn't be magic, it'd be physics or chemistry!. The basilisk didn't turn Voldemort into anything, nor the phoenix, so not everything is affected by it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
