Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
LORD OF THE RINGS!!!

sorry, but after the first three books, narnia got very, very tired and boring!. in fact, i liked the third book the best- even though it had absolutely nothing to do with the rest of them!. maybe it's cuz i'm not christian or something i'm not getting the symbolism!.!.!.

lord of the rings, however, is much deeper and more complex than narnia, which is only after all a children's series!. also, the aura of magic was much much better!. i'd say middle-earth over narnia any day!. plus, the good-vs-evil battle was much better in lord of the rings!.

plus, lotr movies rocked while the narnia ones sucked!.

rock on ringers!Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Downfall of the Lord of the Rings and the Return of the King!.

Tolkien has done something few authors manage, or even attempt: created a world much larger than is needed for the plot and characters!.
There is an immense history there, a richness which is rare!.
From Tom Bombadil to the closed door in the Paths of the Dead, there are other stories in the world, and we don't follow them all!.

There is history in Narnia, but it is much more spare and taut!. Direct to the plot!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Jim the Fee, here

Hello,
You are dealing with multiple book series in both cases!.
They may be taylor made for the same audience!. However,
you are going to have a tough time comparing individual books from each of the series and making a decision on which is "best"
If you want to go global and compare the general themes
and the execution of those themes in each series you might
have a better chance!.
I personally prefer the Lord of the Rings group; but, then, I
am 80 years old and have learned long ago that personal
preference is not a reasonable or authentic reason for decisions on the value of fictional material!. It comes down
to personal taste, and no one has to justify or argue for that!.
So, my one vote goes for LORD of the RINGS

Cheers,

Jim the FeeWww@QuestionHome@Com

Personally, I prefer Lord of the Rings!. It was a much more epic and memorable story!. Plus, I really like fantasty which has characters like elves, orcs and dwarves - it is like being in the Forgotten Realms!. Talking goats and lions aren't as exciting!.

I don't see the similarity between Treebeard and Aslan!.

Aslan is the "Jesus" character - he was put to death, but by slaying an innocent the prophecy failed and so he was risen again!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'd have to say Lord of the Rings, although I do like Narnia too!. Why!? I don't really know!. I just really like Lord of the Rings!.

And FYI to everyone: there are Christian allegories in the Lord of the Rings if you know where to look, so not liking Narnia for the religious aspects isn't a valid reason because they're in LotR too!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

lord of the rings!. is better!. by far!. the story is richer and less simple!. the characters are complex!. the resolution less pat and formulaic!.

i enjoyed the chronicles of narnia as a kid, though!. my dad read the entire series to my brothers and sisters and me!.

LOTR by far!.
It's a classic fantasy epic!. Plus, the creatures in LOTR are more down my alley than fauns and dryads (although they're cool too!.)!.
I'm not saying I didn't like Narnia, because I did, I really did!. I just got into LOTR more!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Tolkein and Lewis were friends!. They used to have a writers group and a lot of their characters are based on the people that they knew!. I prefer LotR, but Narnia is a pretty great series as well!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
