Question: I need to know the author/name of this book!. I read it in my middle school as a required reading and loved it!.

It has a girl who's mother died and the council of the city decides to teach her how to dye clothes professionally!. She is then assigned a housing with others like herself and she encounters a woodworker that she likes!. She then has to repair a special robe for a ceremony that is held annually and features a song that last a whole day, I think!. Any help would be greatly appreciated!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

That's Gathering Blue!. I forgot the name of the author, but I read that book after my class in middle school had to read The Giver, a book by the same lady!. Lois Lowery, I think!.
