Oh, goodness!. All the possibilities that are running through my mind !.!.!.

How short do you want them!? I know some great poems that address those topics, but they may not be pithy or epigrammatical enough!.

Courage
- "Often the test of courage is not to die but to live!." Alfieri (in Orestes)
- "A man of courage is also full of faith"!. Cicero
- poem (can't recall who it's by, starts "This I beheld, or dreamed it in a dream / There spread a cloud of dust along a plain / And beneath that cloud, or in it, raged / A furious battle !.!.!."
(This would also be good for your section on choices, because one man throws away a sword, claiming that it's inadequate!. The prince, swordless, comes across it and returns to the battle with renewed vigor, winning the day!.)

Fear
- "Confusion, indecision, fear: these are my weapons!." Adolf Hitler!.
- "Laws can never be enforced unless fear supports them!." Sophocles
- "Fear of ideas makes us impotent and ineffective!." William O!. Douglas
- "Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most!." Dostoyevski (hope I spelled that correctly!)
- "He who strikes terror into others is, himself, in continual fear!." Claudian
- "What governs men is the fear of truth!." H!. F!. Amiel
- "Fear always springs from ignorance!." Emerson
- "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge!." Proverbs 1!.7
- All my fears and cares are of this world; if there is another, an honest man has nothing to fear from it!." Robert Burns
- "The King said, 'Power does not corrupt!. Fear corrupts, perhaps fear of the loss of power!.'" Steinbeck (The Short Reign of Pippin IV)
- "Fear is the proof of a degenerate mind!." Virgil
- "The only thing we have to fear, is fear itself!." F!. D!. Roosevelt, inaugural address, 1933 (but you probably already had that one)
- "So dare I, wretch, my bashful feare subdue," Sir Philip Sidney, Lady of May, v!. 1
- "Desire still on the stilts of feare doth go!." Sir Philip Sidney, Astrophil and Stella, v!. 66
Sidney has a *lot* more to say on the subject of fear!. If you want more, I can send a list!.

Choices
- "Betwixt the devil and the deep sea!." Erasmus
- "Faire choice I have, either to live or dye!." Sir Philip Sidney, Certain Sonnets, v!. 21
- "With choise delights and rarest company" Sir Philip Sidney, Astrophil and Stella, v!. 97
- "When to elect there is but one, / Tis Hobson's choice; take that or none!." Thomas Ward
- my favourite: Robert Frost, "The Road Not Taken", the last three lines, "Two roads diverged in a wood, and I / I took the one less traveled by, / and that has made all the difference!."

Your local library may have concordances!. Shakespeare and the Bible are two of the most popular you may find!.

also, if you go to
1) Gutenberg Online Books
2) Luminarium: Anthology of English Literature
3) Renascence Editions: Works in English, 1477-1799)
you can download many famous texts, put them into a searchable format, and search for the words you want!. There are more modern ones, too!. I'm just showing my bias towards Renaissance poetry by listing these!. ;-)

Hope this is enough to get you started!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't know if sarcasm has a place in your list of quotes on 'courage, fear, the mystery of the mind, or choices,' but I think Dorothy Parker's brief poem called 'Resume' (verb, not noun) fits this theme:

Resume

Razors pain you;
Rivers are damp;
Acids stain you;
And drugs cause cramp!.
Gun aren't lawful;
Nooses give;
Gas smells awful;
You might as well live!.
