Question: Question about Libba Bray's Rebel Angels/The Sweet Far Thing!?
Ok, so I'm in the middle of The Sweet Far Thing and I love the books!. But there's one thing I don't quite get!. What did Felicity mean when she told little Polly in Rebel Angles "You must lock your door befor you go to bed!.!.!. To keep out the monsters!.!.!. I will sprinkle fairy dust on you but you must keep uncle out!.

And then when Gemma overhears her saying this she says to Felicity "Was there no lock on your door!?"

Then later in TSFT, she remindes Polly to lock her door!. Ok so I'm probably being really stupid, but I just don't get it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Felicity tells Polly to lock her doors because her dad, Admiral Worthington, raped and sexually/verbally abused Felicity when she was Polly's age!. Of course, because Polly is so young, she can't straight up tell her "Yo, my dad's a rapist!. Lock your doors unless you want to get raped!." so she sugar-coated it so she knew Polly would obey!.
Gemma said that to Felicity because she realizes what has happened to her and wants to know why she let it keep happening!.
Later in the book, however, you see how Admiral Worthington's abuse affects both Polly and Felicity!. I won't spoil it for you, but I will say that "she's not like other girls"!. Really sad and unexpected too!.
Great series :-)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Polly's uncle was a child molester!. He molested Felicity, and was probably going after Polly, but Felicity made sure Poppy locked her door so she'd be safe!.

The whole 'Was there no lock on your door!?" was when Gemma understood what had happened, and realized that Felicity had no one to protect her like she had been doing for Polly!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

it means that Polly's uncle probably molested Felicity so she's trying to protect Polly from the same thing!. she's doing everything she can to protect her from what happened to her!. that's why gemma asked felicity if there was no lock on her door cause nobody could save her!. it's kinda sad!. hope this helps!Www@QuestionHome@Com

If I recall correctly, they were implying that one of Felicity's relatives molested her as a child, and she's afraid the same thing might happen to Polly!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
